The GM techs that did mine said the pan is GLUED on. They said there is some special bolt holes on there to wedge it off?

Do you think it would be easier to take the front of the motor off?

When I got the o-ring I asked the parts guy if the pan gasket is reusable. He pulled it up on the comp and said it is?? I guess i'll just get it up the lift and take a good look at it. If the gasket is reusable it seems pretty straight forward. Just drop the crossmember then the pan. The bulletin says it only pays 1.3 hours of labor, so it must not be too hard to do. I would hate to drop the pan then find out I need a gasket or some special sealer though.

Get a tube of RTV black just in case. If it were me ... I would replace the gasket and any seals just to be on the safe side though.

I replaced my gasket, just because I don't like to reuse gaskets. Mine had a small rivet on both sides of the pan to hold the gasket in place.

Just replace the gasket. You don't want to do this twice. Trust me it will take longer than 1.3 hours to do this. There are two rivets in the pan you have to drill out also.

One good thing, i'll be doing it at the shop with a lift and air tools. I didnt get a chance to get a gasket. Do you have to drill out the rivets if you try to reuse the gasket?? Believe me, I dont want to do it twice, but if this stops this damn knocking noise i wont care.
