underdrive pulley - adverse effect?

i have often wondered about that myself. i figure as long as they are balanced we will be alright. i still might remove mine just to see.

I could see that happening. The pulley is also the harmonic balancer which is used to even out the pulses from the piston firing. In a Honda it would be more brutal because it's only 4 cylinders per revolution, where these motors are have twice the pulses so it's a whole lot smoother. The flex-plate/converter or flywheel/clutch is suppose to keep the balance on the back of the engine as well.

It makes perfect sense, but for the fact the v8 would be twice as smooth with the pulses per rev ... I don't think it would be as much an issue with the v8's.

Is that with e-fans or wit hthe stock fan? With e-fans you would get less of a gain because that drag is already gone.

I think the only real drag is coming from the power steering pulley. They even sell an underdrive power steering pulley...probably better than the short belt mod.

THe water pump takes some power too. As well as the altenator.
