I could see that happening. The pulley is also the harmonic balancer which is used to even out the pulses from the piston firing. In a Honda it would be more brutal because it's only 4 cylinders per revolution, where these motors are have twice the pulses so it's a whole lot smoother. The flex-plate/converter or flywheel/clutch is suppose to keep the balance on the back of the engine as well.
It makes perfect sense, but for the fact the v8 would be twice as smooth with the pulses per rev ... I don't think it would be as much an issue with the v8's.
