could you just add a additional pully to your stock one and then get a smaller belt and pully for you new alt??

the thing is that now you need to have additional pullies added left and right and a longer belt etc etc.

The more pullies you add, the higher the load the belt needs to spin- the most slipping that will occur.

After going through 3 GM alternators in 75k miles- id just spring for an aftermarket.

What you want to do is put it at the most extreme angle possible, so you have the most wrap (surface area) around the pully. If you raise or drop it a few inches, you an go around one and COME BACK to the first, then continue on.

while having the most "grab" possible like my man ^^^ is tryin to say would be best......anyone whos done dual alts can tell you that "ya gotta do what ya gotta do" and you cant always have idler pullys everywhere, especially if you have a supercharger chewin up probably more than 12" of belt by itself. Lining em up like your doing will work GREAT dont worry about it. You may not get any slippage at all, but if you do it will probably ONLY happen under heavy load for a breif second. If thats the case then maybe incorporating a single idler in between will do just fine. They arent that hard to do either, but like i said the Supercharger will make it hard to find a belt and im guessing a 130" belt will be needed if you do add an idler. Without it you can get away with a 121" belt (thats what i did in the Caddy im workin on)

Ive put 30,000 miles on my tahoe since ive done my dual alts and even drove across the U.S. to go to World Finals last year.........so i will tell you now that linin' them up like you are doing will be the BEST way to do it in "our" type of truck. Keep me posted thru PM if ya need help

I'm glad meade916 posted here. I don't think there is any other clean way to mount the two alternators other than where we put them. The only other way to mount them would require an entirely new power steering/alternator bracket and that is unnecessary and expensive. I think the wrap would be fine without an idler, but since Chris is planning on spinning the engine over 6k an idler will keep any slippage from occuring on the 1-2 shift. I'm sure Chris will post again once we/he get an idler pulley inbetween and underneath the alternators.

Chris - you were right about those camera phone pictures - they do come out nice! Paint those brackets!

Thanks for the reply Steve. I have an idea for the idler, have to fit it up and check out belt length, but I think it may be too long. Where did you get the 121" belt?

No, sorry, don't have any extra ones. When my other one burned up I was without a truck for a few days waiting for a new alt.
