Ok here's the thought process. I had a single 200 amp before, burned it up for unknown reasons (aka increasing shifts from 5900 to 6300 rpm). I took it to my alternator guy to rebuild it, but in the meantime bought a 140 amp stock unit. 140 amps with a/c, e-fans, tranny cooler fans, offroad lights, and 2500 watts RMS of stereo doesn't go very far. I decided to go this route because buying a 140 from GM and rebuilding my aftermarket one was gonna be cheaper than buying a single 300 or 400 amp alt (assuming that I could find one, and assuming that the case would even fit...the 200 I had was huge to begin with).

You might look into diesel belts the one on my dads powerstroke is long as hell and it has the dual alternator setup on it from the factory jsut a thought. That will be 10 bucks off my kit
I'll take a look at diesel belts, are they still 6 rib? Haha if we decide to sell them and the diesel thing works out I will give you your $10 discount

I don't know what kind of amperage an onboard welder needs, but the alt guy told me the 200 I had before would run a welder. prolly couldn't keep 14 volts doing it, but he said it would go all day long. Just relaying what he told me, I personally have no idea.

uhhh....wait till I'm done before you judge, I took the belt wrap into consideration. Or if that's not the reason, would you care to give your input?
Or should I just start guessing?

Even with a single idler I will still have just as much, if not more wrap than originally. Just gotta find a place to mount the pulley.

common sense, no so common.

The first thing that is STRIKING is the belt routing. If the alternators were'nt inline the belt routing would be much much easier.

But no, you shouldn't start guessing. You should START by not being a saracstic jackass

Ok ok I don't want to get into an argument...yes you're right about not posting pics before I'm done if I don't want to have them judged.

As far as where the alts mount, this was the least intrusive and easiest way that we could think of to do this. Everything is bolt-on, no welding, factory locations, etc etc. The brackets are very simple. What would you have done differently? (and I mean that seriously, not sarcastically)

I did ask for input, so rather than knocking the concept without an explanation, it would be nice to have you tell me what you thought and why. No hard feelings on my side, and I apologize for being a sarcastic jackass

Just went out and checked my dads PS and it has 8 ribs you mgiht check into the older model vehicles Ill ask mjhoward he used to sell parts he mgiht know of something. Good idea man. Also for the idler pulley a 100mm unit down in between teh two a fwe inches lower that the alt pulleys would work well IMO.

Thunder.... I'm genuinely impressed with your mature attitude in the face of insulting and anger provoking comments aimed at you. I thought we were going to be off on a flaming war but you really handled that well. VERY cool.

this should be intresting when its all said and done.... hell its all guess and check at this point. You gotta try and feel your way around to see what works, bc obviously there arent many ppl that do this type of thing... anyhow, when you get it done and working someday, maybe you can sell ppl kits w/ the alternators, lol im sure there wont be a HUGE demand for it.

oh and do you have any working alternators laying around? i'm looking for the 140a one from a denali or whatever truck it came out of... just something that is larger than our stock ones but will work as a direct connection rather than having to splice anything in.

Hope this help a little. Try getting in touch with this guy about the intall if you can.
