Ok, it's been making noise for a while. The complete engine and tranny failure is due to neglagence. I recommend you get a mustang.

Used 5.3 liter motors are pretty easy to come by. With all the money you are going to need to lay out for a trans, converter, and flexplate. Might be best to save on the motor.

I'm just throwing this out there, but have you ever thought about a ls1 for a replacement motor?
There's tons of after market parts and most of the magazine write up have the engine base dyno numbers @ 400hp and 440# torque when turned on 100 octane and the ls1 intake (stock on '01 and 02 engines I believe).

There's usually a fair amount of stock ls1 engines for sale on ls1tech.com starting at 1500 complete.
A little while back there was a 6L motor with 4Le60 trany from a truck involved in a rear collision... 50K miles on it for 2500.

I'm sure as hell no mechanic so I don't know what would drop into your truck, or if you already have other plans for it.. just throwing the idea out there.

I would vote a "take out" LS1/4L60 combo from an f-body. You can usually find those from wrecked (engine and tranny in running shape) cars on ebay anywhere from $1500-$2500.

Update:

Got the truck back today. Everything seemed fine... until I tried to merge with traffic...

The engine was replaced, I have no idea what the engine code or the mileage is. I'm going to call and find out tomorrow as the main mechanic that worked on my truck was not there when I picked it up today.

The engine's fine... it runs pretty strong, if not stronger than the previous motor. The problem is the tune. I just got back from driving it around a little bit to see if everything was alright. Here's the symptoms:

- The "Change Engine Oil" light comes on for a few seconds at startup.
- The "Service Engine" light is on constantly.
- At WOT the tranny will shift at 3000 RPM.
- At WOT the tranny will not downshift.
- Nailing the throttle at 65 mph, the trans will not downshift from O/D, and will only turn 1500 - 2000 RPM.

Now, my mechanic said that it's only a matter of time before my transmission blows up so I'm thinking he ... f*cked around with my tune.

I've currently got the battery unhooked to see if that resets everything and I'm gonna look at the tune tomorrow. But, this mostly sounds like a tuning problem. Any of y'all got any ideas?

Did you just have a 5.3 put back in?

tune issue seems the 1st place to start.

key on (then back off) before you reconnect the battery tomorrow (ENSURE no residual power stuck somewhere). probably not required but just a precaution...

best of luck

Battery didn't do anything other than clear the codes... Which got me thinking.

Before my truck went to the shop the TPS sensor was giving me a bunch of problems. I'm gonna re-load my previous tune and disable the TPS sensor tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes the problem and I can get it back on the road.
