Default Trans rebuild?...NineBall

Tony, what is the procedure for building this tranny to hold up? Where exactly does a window switch go? I do listen i was just floored about the truck making that power i was expecting more along the lines of 380hp. I've already done some work like the transgo recalibration to the tranny and pump. I have not put in a converter yet though. I'm wanting to get a motor finished first.

We have a local shop that rebuilds them for higher horsepower/torque applications. Century Transmissions, formerly PMAC. Mike has alot of experience with those 4L60Es by now, you are looking to spend about $2K in most cases.

The window switch has an rpm-sensing input wire that you tap into your PCM on the tach signal wire. You set the on/off rpm limits with plug-in rpm pills like a shift lite. Use 3K rpm to turn the nitrous on, and have it shut off about 200-300 rpm before wherever you have your rev limiter set at.

The Transgo "reprogramming kit" is complete and an excellent kit but some of the mechanical components just can't take the elivated stress.

There are a few ways to go to increase the strength of the tranny. One is a 200R4 internals conversion (I think this is what Yank does for their 4L70) or more recently the aftermarket has provided much more 4L60E specific replacment parts. These are some replacement parts I've been collecting for my trans rebuild (thanks Ken):

Thunderbolt servo has 35% more holding power than the good ol' Corvette servo.

High performance overdrive billet servo. Has 50% more holding power than the stock overdrive servomakign extra firm 3-4s. Good for towing in overdrive or vehicles geared to pass through the traps in OD.

29 element Borg Warner forward input sprag with double cage construction.

Raybestos Pro Series High Energy Kevlar Bands.

Raybestos Blue Plate Special 6 count 3-4 clutch set.

Extreme Duty front and rear planets with 5 (2002 GM type) pinion gears which are 25% stronger than the old type. Get the hardened outside planet ring gears while your att it too.

Extreme Duty reaction carrier shaft. Has an aftermarket shell and allows the entire rebuild to take place without thrust washers.

Hardened input shaft and drum assembly plus a hardened reaction shell and bearing. They are rated to withstand over 600 ft-lbs.

Replace the OEM plastic thrust washer with a roller thrust bearing to reduce heat but you are going to need a specially machined and hardened rear planetary inner race to complete the assembly.

What do you think would hold up better to a superstroker?

The 200R4 conversion or the trans your building.

Also where can I find these parts?

Do you think it would be easier to just put in a 4L80E with a shift kit?

I'm going to be real interested in a transmissions here very shortly. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks

The 4L80E would be nice but adds lots of weight and presents compatability issues with the ECM. Not impossible to fix but some minor obstacles.

Hyde, FYI, the rpm wire on the ECM is the white #10 wire. I have and MSD window switch.

Ross House is still around and has been doing some 4l60E's lately also.

He can be contacted at 713-690-3673. May have to leave a message with someone though.
