The tri-ys scavenge my healthy 383 very well. See gms/cyl reading over 1.00 across a fairly wide RPM range. 360 gms/sec airflow at 4,750 rpm and 390 gms/sec at only 5,200. 383 is moving a ton of air at fairly low rpm.

GMT800 truck. I built my own Y, so I spent time instead of money. It's been 5yrs, but I spent $440 on my 1 7/8 from TSP

Hi folks I'm pulling this cam out and starting over. RonSSNova, bless his kind soul, tried his darndest to tune it and get it to stop surging, but the surge continues. So, I'm now humbly looking for your input on a new cam choice. As a reminder, this is a 4.8 with 706 heads, cold air intake, stock exhaust manifolds and true dual exhaust with X pipe and flowmaster 40-series. I'd like to retain the Tick dual valve springs that are in the truck. This is a daily driver and I just want it to have more low end grunt, right off idle. I do Not Care about top end gains, I spend my time from idle to 3k (usually closer to 2-2500k). I also don't want to have to make any other changes such as torque converter, long tube headers, or any other exhaust changes. With that said, the cams I'm considering are:

BTR Truck Cam Stage 1 V2. SPECS: 206/212 .553/.553 112+0
https://briantooleyracing.com/btr-ca...r30612120.html

BTR Torque cam SPECS: 202/202 .511/.511 111+1
https://briantooleyracing.com/btr-ca...-30202112.html

I would greatly appreciate your input on which of these two you'd suggest, and why. Or what other cams you might suggest, given my goals. Thank you!

This would also be a good camshaft, tons and ton of people use this one.

Im with FFDP. This is a good all around camshaft and is very easy to tune.

You should be fine with either of your listed choices. Given your stated goals the torque cam would probably get the nod.

Unless you have a custom cam ground, any performance cam will raise the peak torque rpm and reduce the power in the range that you want. Check the dynograph in FFDP's link, they don't show the stock cam's performance in the lower rpm, because it's probably better than what they are selling. You need either a stock cam, a custom ground cam, more displacement, or boost to satisfy your wants.

Thanks for the input so far. Between the BTR Stage I and the BTR Torque cam, which would deliver better fuel economy? (Not my number one concern, but it’s a factor)

Doubt there is going to be a difference in Fuel Mileage between those to cams.
