Default Thoughts on Pat G spec'd cam for 5.3

So I had Pat G spec a cam for Silverado. 2007.5 NNBS ECSB 4x4 with a LMG 5.3. I have 1-3/4"x3" Longtubes with Corsa Sport Catback, PRC Stage 1 ported 243 heads milled .010" to 63cc chambers, .045" Cometic head gaskets (Quench at .038"), PAC 1218's with PAC Titanium Retainers, Airaid Jr kit, Blackbear 91 tune, Rancho 4" lift, 4.56 gears on 305/70/17s (34x12). Truck weighs about 5500lbs and I tow 6500lbs often. I told him I want my shift points at 6k rpm with redline at 6200rpm, also told him I would like a cam with as much lowend torque as possible and a cam that I can use with the stock converter since I tow heavy often. It took him almost 3 weeks to get back with me with results so I did order elsewhere because I needed to get the truck back together. I went with a BTR stage 2 truck cam. His cam does seem a little large for my needs in my opinion.

But anyways what are your thoughts on his recommendation. 220/224 @.050, .578/.578 lift, 114+2 LSA ground on a CamMotion 8620 core with their lobes.

I'm happy with the cam he spec'd for my GTO, but I'm not sure I would have him spec one for my truck.

I think the BTR cam will be better since you'll be towing often...

That cam choice is actually super good. The duration is mild with an exhaust favored split. The LSA will be smooth and power should come on nice and smooth shining best in the middle and upper rpms.

I talked to BTR about his recommendation and they said it is larger than what I intend to use it for and it would be ideal to have a 2600-2800 stall converter with it, also would not be the best for towing that much weight. But that is what BTR said. I think I picked the better cam. I am not looking for a high RPM high HP cam. Just more usuable power under 6k rpm.

I think something in between what you chose and what pat recommended would have been best. A 220 intake duration on a 112 ICL is kind of a lot in a 5.3.

Ya, I originally had a Vinci Ultra Torque 210/218 .551/.551 116+2 cam and it had great power up to 6200rpm and made 415hp at 5700rpm and 409tq at 4700 rpm, but gave up to much lowend and would of been best with a 2600 stall since it didnt start pulling til 2500rpm or so. After researching the BTR truck stage 2 and seeing some dynos I quickly ordered the BTR.
