Default Thinking about a LQ4

I found a LQ4 longblock no intake or water pump locally for 600 bucks. It came out of a 2500 express van due to some lifter noise which I figure is the piston slap. Motor has about 60k on it what do you guys think? What would be some nice upgrades to throw on it before it goes in the truck.

just remember 317s flow well but just dont have the CR that is needed for larger cams. i ran a 215,xxx mile LQ4 in our pinks car with a 224/228 581/588 114 and it ran well with stock ls1 intake. youll be happy

be carefull with your cam choice. the lower compression of the lq4 doesnt go well with some cams.

what would be the largest cam you could effectively run with the 317's?

All depends on the setup and supporting mods. In the end it is all about how well your engine can bring in air and exhale the air. If you have a 12:1 CR engine with a 238 cam but stock intake paper filter and stock exhaust you arent going to see nearly as much of a benefit as with all the supporting mods. With that said mid 230 cam in a rcsb a fat stall, low230s high 220s in a ecsb/4wd.
