Default Thermostat BB mod, Very impressed.

I just finnished the BB in the thermostat mod, and I must say its an awsome free ($10 max) mod. I took only about 5 minutes start to finish. I let it idle for awhile w/ the a/c on and it never went past 180 degrees. Well worth saving 50 bucks on a powerstat if you ask me. Just my $.02

Hey mine goes up to 200 sometimes when I let it idle for a long time or when it is hot and I am driving fast. I just bought some crap at Slowreilly's called Tow Kool. You add it to the coolant and it is supposed to keep it cooler. It was 7.99. I will let you other BB mod guys know if it is worth the money.

You know, its been a long time sonece I started the BB thing. I am so used to seeing my thermostat reading 175, that when it goes to 200, I think its abnormal.

Apparently you can stick a BB (like the ones from the guns) into the thermostat. If I could figure out how, I would do it too as I have a thermostat sitting in my garage.

It basically gives you a 160* for a fraction of the cost.

When I first decided to use a BB, I put this pic together. On my last try, I ground the BB down just a little on one side to make it open just a little later. Basically, I ran a warmer Tstat in the winter and a cooler on in the summer.

You can easily take a pair of pliers and pus down against the spring and twist loost the top cap and it all comes apart. Then its just as easy to reassemble it and put is right back where it went.

You just burp the system. Pull the radiator cap once the thermostat opens (carefully) fill up surge tank. Just keep repeating that. Keep an eye on temp gauge and the tank.
