AMSOIL is the best. Independent oil comparison proved that over many of the other oils on the market today.

I like amsoil too, but use rp right now. for the guys worried about a 5k oil change...lighten up. the way it works is every 3K change the filter and add a quart. and dump it all at 10-12k. I have done it for a while with no issues on 2 different trucks, an old dakota r/t and my current truck. If I could get amsoil at napa I would go that route, and have been thinking of valvoline syn, and castrol syn. I would not put pensoil in my lawn mower! I do not care what the results say, never been a fan nor will I ever be. I really like valvoline products of all fluids, I have been using them at work for the last 8 years. and I only use ac delco filters. these are just my opinions and observations from working in the field.

lucas is a viscosity raising additive. say you add it to 5-30...you just made your 5-30 more like 10-30 or 10-40. so I was told by a trainer at a class two weeks ago.

Say i have been putting 5 quarts of PP and that Lucas FS additive in my oil for about say 60k miles now... my truck runs great and i have had no problems, but is there any need for it? It's kinda starting to cost a lot of money lol

I would skip the additive. Your already using good oil and if the additive is holding you truck together then you have other problems. If anything go with a thicker oil.

What about time intervals? I don't drive my truck enough to do the 3k or 5k oil changes? I think in the last year, i have put 3k on my truck, during that time i have changed the oil 3 times, once for each cam swap (2 of those) and once for a head swap... So is every 6 monthes ok?

Every 6 months is fine....the old standard used to be 3mo or 3k, but oil technology has come a long way...

yes, the time interval is for moisture build up in the oil, causing it to react with other chemicals trapped in your oil that could cause an acidic build up. that could cause pitting, rust, ect.

It is very bad on the new diesels with the dpf systems. they have to run 15ppm diesel and low ash oil to prevent the acidic build up due to the overfueling of the dpf regeneration. I have not seen any problems yet, but there is always a chance.
