Default Sooo...is something wrong with my truck?

I"ve been looking at 1/4 mile times from guys that have trucks similar to mine with basically the same modifications and....why is mine so slow!

I have a 99 ecsb 5.3 with 3.42 g80, a K&N FIPK, magnaflow 3" exhaust and a HPPIII, whick will be for sale now that my wait4me tune is gonna be ordered up tomorrow. But my best time was a 16.047 @ 86.14 mph, 2.4 60' and a 10.3 1/8. temp was about 95* on that day.

Ive seen #'s from guys that r running 15.3's with the same truck

my trucks got 120k on it but it runs like brand new so I have no idea why it is so slow! Are there any guys on hear with a truck similar to my running these #'s?

That time doesn't seem off to me in that heat. The altitude also makes a difference in track time. When you order a tuned PCM, you should consider updating to a 2002 model PCM. People with 99-2000's have shown that the PCM has false Knock retard and other timing issues. Also I believe the injectors are smaller in 99 models. Not sure how much gain the tune and injectors would give, just something to consider.

Also I see in your sig you will get shorty headers. Unless you have already bought them, you might want to check into long tube or mid length headers. There is very little power to be had out of the shorties for the money they cost.

Thanks It was pretty hot out but the altitude there is low, like under 1000 ft, yes, I am going for the 02 pcm(ordering tomorrow) and im looking for injectors from the 02 also. I havnt bought headers, as im waiting to get paid again, I just turned 18 last month so im kinda tight on cash and the gibsons seem reasonable and dont require modifications.

What would be a decent set of long tubes for that truck? If I could find a set that are reasonably price i would go for them in a heartbeat!

Your #s are not really off at all. If I had to guess I would say that 86mph would have been dead on for your truck and it's mods in those temps.. The 99's were not as fast as the 01'+ trucks and even then most of the RCSB trucks barely hit 88-89mph bone stock.

My ECSB Z71 ran a 16.43 stock. Most of the trucks you are seeing with similar mods are probably RCSB's, big difference in weight. I would say you're right about on track with where you should be. Oh...I have 3.73 gears too, your gears aren't helping you out any.

For the headers, the Gibson's may be cheap but they are essentially a waste of money, you won't be able to notice much of a difference with them.

Check out these threads for some good header info
