Default Air intake causes sluggish Throttle Response??

I had a guy tell me that the factory airbox is better to use that an air intake. Said the air Intake will make your Throttle Response sluggish. Has anyone else heard of this?

In my stock truck with the low *** stall torque converter they have, the truck seemed to downshift more when rolling onto the throttle in overdrive. This was with a Volant CAI without ram air tube. My truck just has better lower rpm pull (2200 rpms and lower) with the stock intake. Keep in mind I have 3.42 gears as well, so my cruise rpms are between 1900 and 2000 rpms. I don't think I would notice this if I had lower gears. At around 2300 rpms and up, the intake seemed to help acceleration.
