Should I buy this or wait for a better deal?

You need to do some background checking on that stuff. You definitely want a newer 6.0. Make sure that you get 2001 heads (aluminum ls6 like). The crank is different on the older 6 liters, and would need some work to be a direct swap into your truck.
I saw 2001 longblock on ebay 2 months ago sell for around $900. The guy was in Oklahoma. A complete unit is your best bet. No worries about correct parts and probably cheaper in total. Heads will probably run you $350 or 400 alone.

"I will sell the low mile block , crank, rods, pistons for $575(not assembled)." (all 6.0L parts)
I would like to get him down to the 500 range. I would actually like to get it a little cheaper. Since I have to get the covers, coils, intake and so on still. Can the 6.0L use the 5.3L oil pan? Also I need to get a new PCM to be re-flashed for the 6.0L.
I want to have my stock motor and the new 6.0L complete stand alone motors. I dont want to have to borrow parts from 2 if I can avoid it.

You can definately find some deals, try to get the escalade pistons if you can. If I were to do it again I would probably go forged though. Are you considering a 6.0L now? You can definately find good deals, the last 6.0L we bought was a 01 for $100!!!!!!!!

Jason- I am looking for some deals like you have found. Guess I'll keep looking. I would prefer to get a complete motor. But I do plan to get some custom forged pistons.
Offset grind the crank, use the stock rods, compensate for the slightly larger stroke with the pistons when I get them made. Then add the heads and cam comba and some file fit rings....should be good to go with a nice 400+ motor plus a good 200 shot. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Maybe a 150 shot or so. who knows.
