Thumbs down Sent my 4L60E to TransBuilderGuy

Edit - Oct 2018 - long story short, don't do it. Keep reading for a lot of good info and a pretty well description of all the times it blew up and caused massive amount of money and time.

Cruising home last week on the interstate at 70 she let go. Acted like I put it in neutral and free revved in 1,2,3,D and R. Had a light ticking that was RPM driven. While I was on the side of the road waiting for a trailer, I called Robert and he set up a shipping company to pick it up. I pulled it that night and dropped the pan, it was beautiful. Very light metal on the two magnets. It was locally built 4 years ago with a couple good parts.

Robert has the best reviews I have ever seen and a following of people across the nation for his quality of work and customer service. Just talking to him for 10 min on the phone and having him set up the delivery service, then following up on where it was through out the delivery, and letting me know when it arrived to him. No wonder everyone loves this guy. When he tares it apart and sees what I have well go from there but I'm pretty set on giving him the credit card to build it to his best, the Level 5. I only make 500 wheel in my nnbs ecsb truck but since he has it, might as well go ape ****.

let me add that i was literally doing 70mph with the cruise control on when it went. Ive read countless thread about this happening to people and i always thought - no fing way. But it did happen. I am interested to find out what gave.

What kind of power levels do the 4l60s and 65s hold up to. I have a few year old GMPP 4l65 and will soon be making around 420-450whp with a yank ss3200. I'm hoping it will last a while. Also what is Roberts shop name?

$2000 for a 700hp 4l80e vs a $4000 700-800hp 4l60e?

That $2000 difference would pay for parts needed to swap. There are of course reasons not to do the swap.

Nice truck BTW!

4L80E with a shift kit and good clutches will hold more than the best built 4L60E.

Plenty of people are happy with them. I looked through his Facebook wall and didn't read a single complaint.

I did find an issue that another shop had to fix and he paid for the shops labor and sent the parts to fix it.

You don't get much better than that in this day and age.

That sucks, sorry to hear. I have been worried about the same fate for mine since the turbo but have been ok so far.
I have a smoked old 4l80 in a 1998 truck I may prep after hearing this.

Sucks to hear man. Sounds like a good person to deal with though. Where is he located? Ive been looking at the RPM "level 7", which sounds similar to the level 5 you're getting. Haven't seen many people on here with RPM trans.

I wanted to keep my 4l60 but figured I would just get a built 4l80 and not have to worry about.... Well, I hope I won't have to ever worry about it! lol BTW I'm a fan of your truck for sure one of my favorites. Getting it done but very practical.
