Driving normally in 2HI and the service 4WD light came on. Considering I really haven't used 4WD or Auto4 since winter time I find this odd that it pops up now.

I plan on pulling the code to see what the problem is. Those of you that have had this happen, what has been the most common cause that sets the light off?

Truck just turned 20K miles and is a 2000 Silverado Z71.

There has been a rash of bad 4x4 switches lately. Dealers have been replacing the switch. You're about the 1,000,000,000th person to have this problem. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I guess that wouldnt be so bad. Will pulling the codes confirm a bad switch?

I had used the Auto4 feature earlier that day I just remembered, for about 5 seconds when cruising from a stop in the rain. The light didn't come on til 30 miles later though and hasn't reappeared since.

Truck needs to go in for an alignment anyway so I can have them check this out when its there.

today i was driving in the parking lot at school and the same light came on. we are at 20,700 miles on too, Tom.

it's a 01 Yukon SLT.

Did you end up having to take your truck in, or did it just not pop up again?

I have not taken the truck in yet, I have a list of things for them to take care of. The light has not come back on since that initial time.

I'm going to have to watch it now too, or maybe just it to the dealer to look at. Does the code get stored for the 4wd system, like for the pcm?

Code should be stored. I shoulda asked the countless people at US41 this weekend with autotap to scan it for me, but I forgot <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
