Default RPMSpeed 4 ls engine test for 2018

As a sponsor, we feel it is our duty to develop new products, revamp a few, and add some excitement to the game!
This coming year, we will have 4 engines built specifically for testing. After that 3 of them will be for sale!
These will all 4 be built on a REAL budget. Not some bs magazine build that uses dated tech, expensive solid rollers, $1000+ intakes, or $3000 heads.

The builds will be simple, will be tested on the same chassis dyno, and will all use relatively the same parts. Every engine will use the same intake, same heads, same valvetrain and same cam (except one). Truck oil pan and stock pickup with tube girdle. Stock style balancer (likely ati). Stock truck accy setup. Brand new TSP Headers for 6.0l trucks for highest flow. No cats. Undecided on catback. Spectre cai for trucks. 3 bolt dbc tb. Dorman truck intake ported by RPMSpeed. 8.1l injectors. Truck harness. 0411 computer tuned by hptuners.

Heads - our new 243 heads with stock 64cc chamber and our LEADFOOT stainless valves (2.000/1.571) No porting, no hand touchups. Using our RPMSpeed heavy duty rockers.
Valvetrain - ls7 lifters, ls2 lifter trays, our heavy duty RPMSpeed pushrods, Pac1218 springs, stock viton valve seat/seals, cam will be a brand new prototype RPMSpeed cam....numbers coming soon.
Stock mls head gaskets and stock head bolts
Every engine will be rebuilt using our rpmspeed complete rebuild kits save for 1. Engine specs below.

Shortblocks
Engine 1: All stroke 360
Gen3 5.3l block
3.800 bore x 4.00 stroke
Cr 9.6:1 with 14.5cc dish Icon 4032 forged pistons (for pump gas and maybe boost)
Scat I beam rods
Scat forged crank
Clevite H series rods and mains
N motion billet timing set
Rpmspeed ported and shimmed hi flo oil pump
Billet oil barbell

Engine 2: Big Bore 5.3l (347 ci)
Gen3 5.3 block
3.908 bore x 3.622 stroke
Cr 10.5:1 flat tops
Rpmspeed heavy duty flat top floating pin pistons
Gen4 rods
King rods and mains
N motion billet timing set
Rpmspeed ported and shimmed hi flo oil pump
Billet oil barbell

Engine 3: All bore short stroke 333
Gen4 ls2 alum block
4.030 bore 3.268 stroke
10:1 cr flat tops
Rpmspeed anodized head ls2 flat top pistons
4.8l gen3 rods machined for floating pin with oil hole
King rods and mains
N motion billet timing set
Rpmspeed ported and shimmed hi flo oil pump
Billet oil barbell

Engine 4: All bore 372
Gen3 6.0 iron block
4.040 bore x 3.622 stroke
11:1 (premium fuel only)
(Could use dish...but why? lol)
Flat top anodized head ls2 rpmspeed hd pistons
Gen4 rods
King rod and mains
N motion billet timing set
Rpmspeed ported and shimmed hi flo oil pump
Billet barbell

The 333 would OBVIOUSLY be a waste with such a small cam being that everyone will want to see it rev to the moon....so i am planning a different cam for it while utilizing a pac1219x for better high rpm control. It will still be in the truck test platform, so it will use the truck intake and headers etc.

I will be posting total cost soon on each of them.
Let me know what you think!

Our complete rebuild kit will be used on the 347/333/372 and run $735 for the billet timing set and ported pump upgrade. That includes everything BUT rods, crank, and lifters. $699 for normal parts.
The cam kit is $515 for cam and pac1218 springs and $549 for cam and pac1219x springs.
The scat i beam rods are $299
Icon pistons are $649 with rings
Ls7 lifters with ls2 trays $130
Scat crank $899
Hd rockers $215 without bolts
243/799 Heads with stainless valve upgrade and seats cut for 1.571 exhaust valves and new valve job runs $999 (shipped)
Dorman manifold...jury is still out
Tsp 1 3/4 headers and Y for trucks $499.95

Of course you can do this with ANY set of 243 heads, but we do want to showcase some of our newer products as well!

Machine shop labor and prices will vary so i cannot quote them of course

The Basic build would be $699 (kit) + $130 (lifters/trays) + $515 (cam kit) which is $1344. Call it $1329.
The stroker build is $298 (rods) + $899 (crank) + $649 (pistons/rings) + $200 (bearings) + $130 (lifters/trays) + $515 (cam kit) + $320 (gasket kit) + $65 (ls2 timing set) + $75 (std pump) that is $2951. Call it $2899.

Of course REAL budget is a jy block and just throw a cam in. Id rather have a fresh clean slate, so bore, clean, and new bearings etc for my taste/peace of mind. If youre going to do it, do it right and don spend money twice.
Adding more pieces to the package does give more room for savings of course.

I wanna see that 333 at 8k rpm.

Its gonna use stock 243 heads and ported dorman truck intake and ls7 lifters, so i doubt 8k is in its future, but it is getting a cam designed for it.
Itll be in a truck setup built as a dyno mule so that much rpm with the truck driveshaft may be somewhat dangerous....but fun. I think 7k will be max unless it keeps making power. It will be using a brand new prototype cam also.
The dyno mule for these will be an 01 1500 xcab former Z71 truck. It has 3.73s (iirc) and a g80 stock unit. It will have an nv3500 though so minimal drivetrain loss there and no guessing. A stock flywheel and clutch should take the abuse for as long as it takes to get dyno numbers.

Sounds like a cool setup. I would love to put a motor like that in a ls swap miata and let it eat.

Are there forged rod options for the 333? Any reason not to offer rectangle port heads as an option for it?

Of course there will be forged options, but the first paragraph states budget so building the 333 on a budget is what i am doing. The only reason for the forged 360 is for a thread over on tech of bore vs stroke. They are all being built nearly exactly the same for a few reasons.
#1 to have a few controls in the situation
#2 to keep costs down
#3 to show just the difference in the bottom end alone

Of course i could get some rec port heads and throw on it and do that, but then its no comparison at all.

I see that as being the main issue with most magazine tests. They are either not budget by any means, or they arent a true a-b comparison.
Ideally im going to try 2 dyno sessions with th 333. one with the std cam from the rest and one with a better high spinning cam. We shall see if i can pull that off.

forgive my ignorance, why is the 333 considered a high winding engine? It's got a big bore and a short stroke, more akin to the old SBC. In my day that was a recipe for make torque down low.

When we had cranks with long strokes, longer than the bore was wide, those were the high winders unless my memory has failed me.
