Default Update

Well, for those of you following this thread, here is an update:

I first installed a 27x14 aluminum drag race radiator to try and keep the IAT down, which is did help but I noticed some stuff when doing the datalogs.

I ran by a sound barriar at the middle of 3rd with the windows down so I could hear the truck echo off the wall. At about mid 3rd I could hear the ratteling noise getting much louder and I started to see 3 degrees of knock retard on the datalog. I stopped the truck after about a mile and sprayed some water on the top of the intercooler to see if it was really hot, and it sizzled (they say that it should not get that hot??) So I called Kevin at magnacharger (hell of a nice guy, gave me his cell phone # so I could get ahold of him after hours) he said the blower will get hot, he doesn't know how hot, but the noise could be suspicious. He said it is rare to see a problem and that 95% of all that get sent back due to noise have no problem, but to send it back anyhow, and they will get it checked out ASAP, at least for our piece of mind. He also said that if there is a problem that they will compensate me for my 175 dollar overnight shipping on the unit. So I ripped the unit off this morning (45 minutes) and packaged it up and mailed it out. They will have it by 10:30 tomorrow morning, and Kevin said they may be able to get it fixed and sent back out the same day, with overnight sat delivery and I will have it before the weekend hopefully. I am kinda skeptical since I sent the programmer with it for John in calibrations to redo the programming.

So, what do you guys think? Keep my fingers crossed? Do you think I am wrong in thinking there is a problem with the blower? Am I stupid? On a 70 degree day with a HUGE heat exchanger, intake air temps STILL went over 145 by 4000 in 3rd gear. The only think I think it could possibly be is the blower.

That's an awsome turnaround time if they get it back to you that fast. Sounds like they really care about customer service. Keep us updated.

Kevin seems to know his stuff too! It's good that they are taking care of you. I don't think your radiator thing should be getting that hot. I think that should be worth looking into.

One thing is for sure. Whatever is going on, you know it won't be the blower. I don't ever remember my heat exchanger getting that hot. I do have the larger one that fits in the lower grille, though. Even with the old one, I don't think it got that hot. Although, I have seen IATs pretty high, just can't remember if it was that high, or not.

Mabey BenKey or someone else with a radix could chime in to compare their MAF readings at simular RPM's

The amount of Air your moving via MAF readings 350>>>>Seems low. And on one log your only moving 250 at like 4500 RPM's I've seen NA readings higher.

I don't think 140 IAT's are to bad mine go above 160 in warm weather after a WOT run.

Things to check

1. Intake Tract for Restrictions (Filter ect)
2. Belt Slippage
3. Could your Cats be partially plugged?
4. What are you getting on TPS 98% or better?

Not much to break with the SC

Good Luck

I was getting over 160 in cold weather at the track. And by the time I get to 6000 in 3rd they will go over 150 I am sure even with the VERY LARGE heat exchanger. The guys at magnacharger feel that they should not go over 140 in 70 degree weather, even with the stock heat exchanger, and the knock retard is something odd as well. I am getting 390 grams MAF at 5800 rpm. That seems normal to the guys at magnacharger.

There is something obviously wrong, the install is fine, the truck runs fine, its just not making any power!! Argh. If they say no problem found and change nothing with the programming I may have to argue for a refund.

It sucks that I set myself up as a dealer, and I have several potential buyers, but everyone is waiting on my results. So, I am beginning to get frustrated at this point.

So far magnacharger has been very helpful, so I will give them the chance to fix it.

The intake track is clear, I even did datalogs with no airfilter and had no change. I also did a pressure test on the exhaust, no problems there. It must be either in the blower or the tuning which they have both, so... I wait, my fait is in their hands.
