I think that extra 1000+ rpm before the shift of the LSx type engines is a big contributing factor to the "weakness" of the 4L60s... It seems like even the 4.8s go through them more than the old 350s.

After seeing the pictures (not too bad by the way) I thought of a few more items that typically give issues. One is the tail-lights, on the older tbi trucks that still had the 1157 twist in style bulbs, the sockets would eventually melt. Replacing the panel with the push in style bulbs helps. The HVAC controller has a tendency to go bad and the actuator in the front differential for the 4wd also has a habit of failing. Even with all the little agrivating electrical problems that these trucks may experience, they tend to be minor and are very good trucks. With a little work, it looks like you will have a pretty nice little daily driver on your hands.

The 4wd front end has an electronic actuator as a replacement for the thermal actuator, if it starts giving you trouble... there was actually a TSB on this that the dealer should have fixed under warranty, but unless the original owner bitched about it, the dealer would have let it be.

Thanks for the replies guys! I actually went and drove it today, there is something going on with the 4wd actually, he said its some piece that is about 80 bucks to replace, its the thing that ingauges it, is that the thing your talking about?

It drove pretty good tho for the most part, the exhaust needs a little tlc its basically running an open Y pipe, but its an cheap and easy fix for the most part. The guy said he wants 500, I think im going to point out stuff it needs and get him to 400. Ill post up more pics tonight.

that is correct. a dealer will have what you need, and IMO its very easy to replace.

Will it be cheaper at a local parts store? Or should I just order it straight from them? BTW whats the difference between a C1500 and a K1500 is it 2wd vs 4wd?

Oh, I almost forgot, the truck was puffing out quite a bit blue/black smoke, im going to assume buring oil, is this bad other than the smell and constantally checking the oil?

Basically if I end up getting this truck next spring/summer I am going to yank out the engine and put all new gaskets, freeze plugs, and a good teardown cleaning, I prolly wont worry about the cylinder walls and pistons and stuff unless it lookes scratched.
