Default Questions about 1990 GMC Seirra

This is my first post on here, and I have a couple questions about a 1990 GMC seirra 1500 (Z71 package).

For starters it has 187,xxx on it. It is my dads friends old truck. He said it runs like a champ, just needs to be driven. Were can I find parts for cheap for it? Like cab corners (has rust) taillights, exhaust parts, interior parts. I will get pics up later tonight. He wants 500 bucks for it, its going to be my new winter beater. Anything I should look out for? What are common problems?
Also just looking for general info on it, specs stuff like that.

Thanks!

www.lmctruck.com for new - ebay can get you some used parts for a decent price. a search on www.fullsizechevy.com can answer most any question you will have.

Thank you! I was reading a bit on FSC.com and it seems like there is some pretty good info in it.

I'd say the two weakest links in the tbi year model trucks, would be the distributor cap/rotor (very susceptible to corrosion) and the ever-popular 700R. Other than that, they are pretty reliable trucks, build quality not withstanding.

Transmissions were marginal when they were 700's and now that they have evolved into 4L60's aren't much better. Now don't get me wrong the 4L60 is better, just not strong enough for much towing/off roading/performance, pretty much anything that involves not being used in a car.

Thats weird because my old 89 that I had the trans went 300,xxx and it still ran strong with no problems, I beat on it too. I guess its just luck of the draw.

Default Parts

Ill list the places that me or my brothers have used personally.

LMC truck- free catalog on their website
CK Resto - free catalog on their website
Stylin Trucks- free catalog on their website

The stuff we got from all 3 of them was in good shape and shipped within a week. Just check prices from a few different places so you get the best deal.

the 60e is great in stock form with a little 5.0 or stock 5.7 pushing it, my 91 caprice had 220,000+ miles and it was doing great. once you mod the motor, the 4l60e will get hungry... and eat itself
