Default Pulleys

I have a Kenne Bell SC and was wondering what kind of pulley should I go with, size and all that. Also what kind of money are we talking about. And how much more boost will I get and how much HP does that equate to. Sorry for the long question but want to break in to the 13's.

I run a Whipple, but I dont think their pulleys will mount to a KB. But on the Whipple a 3.5"pulley will give 12psi. Generally it is 1psi per eigth inch reduction on the whipple. One psi can vary a lot depending on the application and whether or not the air is intercooled or not. On the 5.3L engines (stock heads) non intercooled one psi increase above the original 6psi should be about 10-12hp.

How are you planning on controlling detonation?? Depending on whether you are using a custom intercooler or some sort of injection, you probably will be limited as to how much more boost you can make. How much boost are you running now?? How much timing???

6 psi and 19* of timing. Could I not control the detonation with another tune from MTI they are the ones who fixed the detonation last time and gave me almost 30 more RWHP.

WOW!! Thats quite a bit of timing!! I dont know how they kept so much. Im making about 7# and only have about 14* currently. I finished setting up my fully progressive meth kit last weekend so Im going to up my boost to 12# and hopefully get some more timing as well.
Another guy here (Ranwalk I think) had alot of detonation when he moved up to the 8# pulley. I think there is one guy here running 8#, but he can only safely run like 4* of timing and still gets detonation on hot days.
I would consider at least an alky kit if you want to run more boost safely, especially if it is a daily driver.

Green's right, anything over 7psi non intercooled and you start to get diminishing returns from adding more boost. It adds too much heat, and you have to back timing down so much, you don't get any gains.

I recently installed a KB supercharger on My ECSB 5.3. The original pulley was 4 3/16 and supplied 5.5 lb boost. I downsized to the 4 inch pulley for $49.00 and now running 7.5 @ WOT. To stop detonation, I had to resort to 98 octane fuel until I set up the the water injection. The boost gauge shows 6.0 lbs at 2500 RPM so there is some increase in boost as you approach 6000RPM. What kinds of 1/4 mile times are you posting currently? I have not been to the track but I think Im around 14.5.

I just ran and posted 14.53 @ 94.91 mph. but mine runs 6lbs with the stock pulley. What do you mean by water injection? and where did you get the pulley from?

Excellent time!

Looks like both our setups are similar. The water injection is to prevent detonation so you can run higher boost. The pulley cane from Kenne Bell as an Upgrade to running higher boost.
