Default Problem with headers?

I put a set of short tube headers on my truck. I bought uncoated, since I have some jet hot coating and did that myself. Now the truck runs funny and seems to have a little bit of a skip. Anyone ever come across that problem? Is there anything to cure that besides putting the exhaust manifolds back on?

Shouldnt need it tuned with shorties...you check your plugs and plug wires and make sure all is good there?

You didn't bang up your spark plugs when installing the headers did you? I don't know if the 04's have an EGR or not but did you plug the hole if it did or re-attach the tube?

As mentioned above, first thing I'd check is to make sure you didn't accidentally crack one of the spark plugs. A hairline crack in the porcelain will cauxe a missfire. If you cant visually see anything, you could always throw a set of NGK TR55's in there, they're usually less than $2 a plug, so for under $16 you can eliminate one possible problem. Other issues may include an exhaust leak, possible wire broken to one of the O2 sensors, or a spark plug wire that got damaged upon removal when installing the shorties. Also make sure that all of the wires are on all of the way, it's easy to not get them fully seated. You should hear and feel a click when putting the spark plug wire boots on the plugs.

Thanks for all the ideas. Ill check it out. The main thing I was concerned with is the tune. Ill check the plug wires, hopefully its just that, since I just bought a brand new set of Ac delco plugs that were 65.00. Does anyone think the Jet Hot coating might have caused the 02's to mess up?

Nah, unless the coating is inside the header somehow heated up and coated the sensor (not likely), then I don't see how it could have messed up the O2's. If anything, it helps O2 operation by keeping the heat inside the exhaust and allowing the O2 sensors to heat up quicker.

Thanks, checked it out, sure enough, found one plug cracked slightly, replaced it, and she runs great. I did coat the inside of the headers too. I was trying to come up with a way to coat the inside completely. The best way I could think of was hooking a vaccum to the outlet and spray in the inlet, but ended up just spraying inside them the best I could. When they were done, I polished them and they came out looking really good. Ill have to get some pics, and if anyone else is interested, I would be willing to coat some more.

But again, dummy me forgets to look at the simple problem and go right to something more difficult. I need a sticker on my tool box that says keep it simple sometimes
