what all is involved in doing a 5.3 to 6.0 swap? a friend of mine has a complete 6.0 sitting in his shop that he said i can have for my truck. how do you tell a lq4 from an lq9? do i need to swap computers? what are some pros and cons from a daily driving standpoint? thanks

well it depends on what year it is, before 01 will not work and after 06 (in most cases will not work). With that said 03-06 being the best a lq9 will have 317 stamped on the head where as the lq4 will have a 2** stamped on the head. It's a fairly easy swap just use your accessories I would put a cam in while it's out, and stall if your going that route. The 6 liter gets about 1 mpg worse than the 5.3 but didn't use passing gear as much I'd say for a dd I like 6 liter better

whats different about pre 2001 6.0s? he said he thinks it is a 2000 motor but isnt sure, he got it in a trade from a friend who got it from a friend who replaced it because it was "knocking" but ended up being a broken flywheel, not the motor

i believe that in the pre 01 6.0 there was something to do with the crank, and i was told wont fit with the 4l60e i could be wrong, ive never tried it but its what i was told a while back. kinda think of it there was actually just a post about that recently if you look threw a few of the treads on the board now
