Default PAGING: Anyone with a non-6.0 4L80E swap

This is starting to get depressing. I've come up with a list of stuff that I'm going to need, and it's looking more and more like this is turning out to be VERY EXPENSIVE!
  • starter, $250-300 (they have different p/n than the 4.8/5.3 starter, so I'm assuming that I'd need it)
  • tranny cooler lines, $100
  • crank spacer/bolts, $40-50
  • crossmember, 1500HD $150-175
  • neutral safety switch $50
  • transmission/converter, GMPP 4L85E $2500 (but could get used for $1200)
  • Speartech harness/tuning $210
  • Denny's N2O shaft, $350

What else am I missing? I sure wish that a built '60 would work for me. It sure would be cheaper.

I did find out that there was a 2WD, 1/2 ton 1500HD w/ the 6.0L/4L80E, which was indeed based on a 1500-series frame. The crossmember p/n is 15057776.

Speartech harness is actually $160 shipped + $50 for tuning unless you already have EDIT and steal a file from an HD truck.

These may be ignorant questions and I haven't gotten this far yet in my swap....all I've done so far is take out the motor/trans.

-Why do you need a starter.....cant you use the one you've got, and if you cant, why not get one from a junk yard, along with the tranny lines for half the cost (car-part.com)?
-Why are you buying another crossmember and not modifying the one you have for the bigger tranny?
-What is the neutral safety switch for?
Those 3 things alone can save you half a grand if you can do without.

I think you may also need driveshaft modification and maybe a different yoke?

I guess I could get mine modified, but I'd have to have someone do it and I've already gotten one ballpark estimate of $100. Why not just get the GM part if it's going to be that much?

As for the starter....the crank spacer goes between the crank and the flywheel, thus moving the flywheel teeth away from the starter teeth.

If you're gonna get the crossmember from GM, I saw it on GMPartsDirect.com for only $118.00 (INCLUDING SHIPPING).
Would save you a couple meals while workin' on it anyways.

Starter will work, I just asked Parish and his bolted right up. You will need the flywheel though.

i dont know what is up with the started to tell you the truth, i had 2 of them on my bench and grabed the cleaner one to put back on, didn't even look at them.

seems like the 4.8/5.3 flywheel is tapered back toward the tranny puting the ring gear at about the same spot as the 6.0 flex plate. i wouldnt get a starter till you try yours.

Where did you get this info? The 1500HD is a 2500 series truck plain and simple. GM just called it a 1500HD for marketing purposes.

Not calling you a liar just wondering where you heard that info.
