Check out the part number and applications on this picture.

I'm not saying it can't be made to work but, the 1500 and 2500 frames are alot different.

I think that's why a flexplate is part of the spacer package. As the flexplate is moved back and forth with the different applications, they stamp it differently so that the teeth will stay lined up properly with the starter.

If the 6.0 shows a different starter part number, it may be a higher performance starter, but I think they all mount in the exact same location, so yours should be ok.

To the best of my knowledge a regular 1500 series framed truck has never been offered with the 4L80E. The true 1500 series framed 6.0L trucks seem to get the 4L65E as the strongest available transmission.

Check out the pic I posted. That part number is for 2500 and 3500 trucks. The 1500HD has always been just a 2500 in disguise. The frame is the same as a 2500. The true 1500 series frame is not nearly as beefy as the 2500. I think your parts guy saw 1500HD and just assumed it was a normal 1500 which its not at all.

Check out the thread below to see what a 1500HD and 2500 series frame/crossmember look like. It could probably be made to work but, I've checked on my truck with a few measurement from L82gofast off his 1500HD and the 1500HD crossmember is gonna be tight up against some of the fuel tank/emissions stuff if it fits at all. The bolt hole for the 1500HD crossmember are also not in the regular cab true 1500 series frame but, they could easily be drilled though.

I will try to find all the pics that Mike took for me of his truck and put them up here for you to look at. He also gave me some measurement in an email that I'll try to find and post up.

OK, here are a few of my observations. The 6 liter flywheel is pretty much flat where the 5.3 is dished. that is why you have to use a spacer with the 6 liter flywheel.. It ends up in the same spot as the 5.3 flywheel as far as spacing so the starter works fine. The only reason I could see for having to use a spacer and a 6 liter flywheel is the torque converter bolt holes. My converter (midwest) has both so I could have just used the 5.3 flywheel. I only replaced 1 cooler line ( the rearward most one on the '80) the other one plugged right up.

Not sure what all the talk is about the neutral switch my '80 came with one and it is exactly the same as the one on the 4l60e.

My driveshaft worked fine, just had to use a th400 yoke and a special conversion u-joint.

The crossmember. I think what we are seeing here is there is a difference in 2wd and 4wd and there are differences in 1500 series vs 2500. The truck my 4l80 came out of was a 2002 2500 2wd ext cab and it was nothing like my truck. It took me 3 hours to
modify it.

I have had all kinds of freak probs and setbacks on this project (took 2 1/2 weeks just to get the flywheel bolts) they sent me the wrong converter, etc etc.

My truck is still not running so I cant give any feedback, but at least it is bolted in place.

Just from the local Carquest Auto Parts. It is called a hybrid joint-has 2 1350 sized caps for the 400 yoke and 2 "saginaw" caps for the original driveshaft. I can get the part number if anybody needs it.
