Talking other things to buy when installing a cam?

I want to get a cam like 02 denali's comp 216*/220* 525"/532" but when I get the money to buy it I also want to know if I should save and get new springs, retainers, locks and pushrods? If so does anyone know where I should I start?

I'm buying comps 212/218 .522/.529 and bought a set of Z06 springs and titanium retainers. From what i've heard (not much because im still new here) you will want a custom tune and im sure everyone will say nelson. I'm not sure about the pushrods or locks but im sure someone will chime in on that.

you will have to have new spring 918 blue stripe, you don't need new pushrods, best to use TI retainers. I am sure a couple of other people can give you a better idea.

I've talked to lot of people about this lately. With that small of a cam you don't need new retainers - stock ones are fine. You could even get by using the stock pushrods with no issues. All you really need is springs (Comp 918), a gasket kit, and extra coolant.

If you wanted to get one more thing, get the pushrods, but pass on the retainers. Trucks don't rev to 7K RPM's so you won't notice the benefit of titanium retainers. Don't bother with steel retainers, that's what your stock ones are - you already have steel retainers.

You need the folloinw:

Spring are a must
I would buy pushrods before tit retainers
2 Water pump gaskets
1 front engine seal
1 Crank bolt

How many miles does your truck have? If over 50k it is recommended you change your time chaing since since it's cheap you already have it open.
Hope this helps.

While your in there doing springs you might as well do valve seals too. Quick and easy once the spring is off. And they are cheap!

Talking

with the 525-532 cam you can use Z06 springs if you want. they are good to 560 lift. i put in 918's since i9 got a good deal on them. i went with manley pushrods since i am going to be spinning her to 6400rpm,s. and i have used the scoggin dickey cam install gasket kit everytime and it is nice.

I think the 918's are overkill on anything under .550 lift. I would definately use the Z06 springs or Comp Cam 916 springs in favor of the 918's with that cam. You can either use Titanium retainers ($150 or so) or re-use your stock retainers with either of the springs. As for titanium retainers not benefiting anything under 7000 rpm... I am going to have to disagree with that one, as any weight off of the valve train is gonna let the thing rev quicker. I think hardened pushrods are a wise choice considering they are only about $100. Most cam install kits include the necessary gaskets and a new balancer bolt.

Not sure, but the thunderracing.com LS1 gasket kit kit is P/N 111-10-LS.
