I live in cali and have the 93 tuning...have always ran 91 and never had any detonation problems
not sure about a 98 but on the new one's you would never know you were starting to detonate unless you always have a scan tool hooked up. the knock sensors should pick it up and pull timing and take care of it for you. when i hear stuff like i use 93 tuning with 91 gas and it works fine, i have to ask how do you know? there is a point where 93 tuning will be slower than 89tuning. maybe at 60deg the 93tuning works fine but at 80deg it is pushing it too much gets into KR, once into KR it will be slower than if it just had the slightly less agresive 89tune and no KR.

if i lived in a place where it didn't get over 80deg i would try the 93tune and monitor for KR, if i lived down in texas where it is way hot alot of the time i wouldn't try the 93tuning unless i had good gas to go with it.

if your looking for a good octane boost i had great luck with xylene, it is about $4/gallon at a paint store and is 117octane.

18galons of 91 and 2 gallons of xylene

((18 x 91) + (2 x 117))/20 = 93.6

xylene is a substace that is allready in gas, you would just be increasing the ratio of it. i put a 33% mix in my truck many times. probably ran close to 100gallons thru there. infact xylene is an ingreadent often found in those little bottles of octane boost, problem is there just isn't enuff in one of those little bottles to make any diference.

well i have tested the ks reading with and without hpp3 programing on 91 octane...without the programing my ks activity is around 283 and with programming its exactly the same which tells me the programing isn't causing anymore knocking than stock..i think the im getting false knocks caused by the roller rockers and flows... parish could i put a resistor inline with my ks to get rid of false knocks...i am not getting any kncok retard according to atap
