There are so many variables in tuning that can be messed up that its impossible to get perfect everytime. Me personally i love my nelson tune. I dont recommend 100% tm removal read my sig and you will find out. My 3-4 clutch packs took a hike. Nelson tune is much better IMO and I gained .25 in the quarter over a hypercrap in the 1/4.
Ive been reading and learning about tuning. While the AFR was off on a tune I got from nelson the timing was on and the truck did run well. I had my truck tuned by someone else and it was done on a dyno, though I gained 10 hp over the nelson tune it ran slightly better (stock engine).
Now with extensive mods to the heads and big cam Im having trouble with my local tuner and the truck just isnt producing what it should be, having issues with drivability that should be fixed dying hot starts etc... now that Im narrowing down on problems with my setup and resolving issues from high compression its really coming down to the tuning which is one variable I need to illiminate.
Im about at the point of buying logging software or something so I can see whats going on.
Im shore every tuner has his strengths and some might be better at tuning modified engines vs stock engines.
