Need some help.

Today I started my car and I noticed a loud humming noise coming from under the driver side door, under the truck somewhere. I shut my truck off and it was still humming loud. I had to go somewhere so I just drove it, and I noticed the ABS light was on. I got home and it was still making that noise even when the eninge was off, so I unpluged the battery and it shut off. I then repluged the battery and the noise went right back on. Do you guys have any idea what this could be? Thanks for your help in advace, and I will try to get some sound clips of it tonight to show you what I am talking about. Kent.

Ufortunatley you have the symptoms of the defective ABS module...if you are out of warranty, this is going to be expensive...The ABS module sits where you are describing the noise emmiting from and this is a noted problem.

I have heard of 3 1999's with bad ABS modules. No 2000+'s YET. I am crossing my fingers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> Does it affect your braking (other than no ABS) I hope you find one for cheap dude. Hopefully it is something cheaper, but it sounds like something in the module since the light came on.

I just read some post over on ls1.com and I figured that out. I did pull the ABS fuse and the noise stopped. Will there be any harm with that fuse out other than the fact that I will not have ABS? My truck is not under warranty anymore. As of March 2002, it was done. I have read many post on this problem, shouldn't this be a factory recall or something?

Dude I just reread your post. I noticed that you said the noise goes even with the truck off. That is weird I have never heard of that. Someone here will probably know though. Crawl under and see where it's coming from exactly.

What Oxidizr said. This seems to be a bit of a problem for the 99 guys out there. If you are not under warranty, expect to pay up to $1000 to get it repaired. I think the module alone may run about $650+ . Some guys have been pulling the fuse, but the ABS light will stay on but your brakes will still be OK, just no ABS. It may be worth checking a junkyard for one.

Is there a TSB for it? Maybe they will recall it eventually? Either way I would get it fixed soon. ABS has saved my *** more than once, and the lack of (in my 98 Dakota) almost killed my *** more than once.

I was thinking of selling my truck too, but now when someone comes to look at it, there is a fat ABS light on. Not sure what I am going to do. My dad does a lot of business with his work trucks at a dealer in LA, and they usually treat him very good, maybe they could fix it for free? Thanks for the help though, Kent.
