Default need info on this cam

well I found a great deal on a comp cam 216/220 .525/.532 114 lsa Will this be a good daily driver? will I need harder pushrods with this and 918 springs? Will ever have to change my springs out ever again? How will this idle with my exhaust set up? will this be a nice gain over my stock 99' cam? I drive a lot on the highway, will this be a nice highway killer thanks

You will probably need the 918s but you shouldn't really need anything else, although it may be a good idea to beef up the pushrods and such while you are in there. The cam looks like it should be pretty nice though.

1: Great Daily Driver 2: I would get hardened pushrods and you could use the 918's or LS6 springs. 3: Either the Comp or the LS6 springs will hold up as long or longer than your stockers. 4: Will idle good, with slight lope. 5: Will give you a very nice gain over stock. 5: Will be great on the highway and everywhere else!

good cam choice, should give you lots of streetability and be reliable. even look in to upgrading your pcm to an 02 or greater.

yeah, I'm going to install the 02 pcm and injectors at the same time as the cam swap. will this cam run good without tuning and the 02 pcm. I'd like to get the cam in and then get the pcm and injectors in there.

99blackz71 doubt you will get into the 13s without some major mods. I ran 15.1 off the nitrous and without the vlavetrain stuff and lt headers. With a 100 shot, 3000 stall and no valvetrain stuff I ran a 14.09 at sea level so its goin gto take osme doing to get in the 13s. I finally said f'it and Im dropping a 408 and a two stage nitrous sytem on my truck. gmc5.3 tht is a good cam and will give you good drviability and will have a little bit of lope but not as much as my cam that I would sell you. BTW Ill sell you my, springs and pushrods if you are interested I cant use my springs with a .615 lift cam for the 408. That cam will need tunning MjHOward has cam close to that and he had to have tuning it would dye on him at stops sugns and annoying crap like that. Any way you look at it, if you want a cam you are going to need to get it tuned for it to drive good and give you max hp. You need springs and pushrods for pretty much any cam swap that you are goin gto be spinning it higher than 6200 this where the pushrods start bending and the valves start floating. You need to wait till you can afford the tune and cam stuff all at once or buy the cam stuff and wait till you get the money for a tune till you put it in. You wont be happy with a cam until its tuned then it will run right and haul ***. Thats just my opinion though take it for what its worth I have been there done that just rtying to save some heartache.

that is the same cam i have been running for the last 3 years.it is a real good cam it will lope @ idle,i would go with 918 springs don't need push rod.
the only thing is you have 3.43 gears you will need 4.10 to get best results it will be boggy off the line.i ran a 2800 stall with 4.56 to get my best time in the 5.3.you willl also need to swing the motor to 6500 r it will fall a little.

when i put the cam in i did not have a tune and i put cam and pulley with htppIII and the truck only pick up 1.3 in the quater mile after tunning i picked up another 4 tens in the quater.
with out a tune it will not want to idle you will either need to get a tune r drill the hole in the throttle blade bigger so it will idle.

I think that cam would be nice with a good stall and some steeper gears. You're definitely gonna need a tune to get the most out of it. I wouldn't use the stock pushrods though, get some hardened ones from Comp or Thunder. I've wondered the same thing about the longevity of these aftermarket springs...I know that you want to let them warm up before beating on them because they're more brittle than the stockers, but I haven't really heard too much about folks putting em in and leaving them alone. Hopefully someone will have more info on that.
