Not true at all. I pulled an aluminum 4.8 with VVT and 4L80E from a 3/4 ton van a few years ago. Also pulled an aluminum 6.0 LY6 from one as well.

No van had aluminum block 4.8s ever... and an aluminum 6 liter is not an LY6... it's an L76 or some other variant. Isn't it odd that the 4.8 and 5.3 share the same block so the iron block will show 4.8/5.3 cast right in it yet the aluminum says 5.3 only on them lol. Let's see pictures and a part number plus RPO of this aluminum 4.8... oh right... you have none lol.

True but key word that makes it irrelevant is the aluminum part. The OPs engine block is cast iron so it's not a 5.3 unless someone made it that way.

I KNOW WHAT CAME OUT OF BOTH VANS. The 4.8 was a L20 engine. The 6.0 was a LY6. BOTH were absolutely aluminum and both looked untouched. I know the difference between aluminum and iron. The 6.0L had to have one of the engine mount bosses TIG welded back onto the block.

What did the 4.8 block have cast into the front (or back) of it?

Just to interject, because I like doing that, there is no aluminum 4.8. I looked this up pretty far, and now that I have an engine code, here is what Ive found:

https://help.summitracing.com/app/an...0-engine-specs

Iron.

Being as how I have an LY6 based 408, I too can vouch for that sum'bich being iron. Fast355 is welcome to come out to NM and a stick a magnet to it and prove me right if he'd like.

Lol. L20 and LY6 are iron. You can quit yelling as you have no idea what are you talking about anyway. And yeah... here is a thought since you post videos and such frequently. Take photos of these mysteries if you want people to believe you...

I think we would all love to see this bullshit aluminum 4.8 you claim lol.

I will repeat just for you...NO VANS EVER MADE HAVE ALUMINUM BLOCK 4.8S OR 6 LITERS.

I wouldn't say ever, I've seen some weird parts combinations thrown together by the factory. It's almost like they were trying to clear off shelf space or something. However, they usually aren't well documented... but no, I don't believe any of them were SUPPOSED to be built.

If there was an aluminum 4.8, I would have found it. I spent ~2hrs on google, and no one agrees that a 4.8 Aluminum block left a GM factory at any time, for any reason, for any customer. I did find ppl building their own, and found info on 4.8 cranks in bigger motors for more revs, but thats it.
