Default Ls lifter styles

Ok so i have two diffrent styles of lifters. One set i pulled out of a junkyard 5.3..lets call them open face. The next are the standard style i got out of a lq4 i call them closed face I noticed on the closed face at the bottom where the push rod touches it seems to be spring loaded. But on the open face style i have they are not. Are my open face lifters broken or is this just the design? Also which style is the preferred one?

Open face

Closeface

The open face is the early design. The later design is the closed face.

The early style where more failure prone. If you order replacement lifter's you will receive the closed face design.

It's been awhile since I have seen them. I probably still have some kicking around somewhere.

I do know there more prone to fail when used with heavy aftermarket springs and high lift cams. I can't imagine people wanting used stock lifters But what do I know...
