Default longevity 1500 vs tundra

ok, i figured id post a thread to help my dear old dad make a decision in buying a new truck, as an ss owner im partial to the chevy truck, but have nothing against the tundra except the looks.

but its not my decision, and he like the looks of both, and price and everything, but his main question is can he expect the same life span in a new 04 chevy 5.3 1500 quad cab, as he could in an 04 tundra?

i know domestics have come a long way, but would any of your owners honestly consider them equal a this point? thnkas in advance for any replys.

maintance isnt an issue either our last three vechiles have 348K, 315K, and 228K miles on them. but they are all nissans and one isuzu. i know a toyota could reproduce these kind of results, and im hoping the new chevys can, any opinions?
later--DJ

Would you rather buy a truck with 50 years of history behind it, or one thats a couple years old.
I see shitloads of old domestic trucks running around, they hold up pretty well.

I have had a chevy pull a 16 foot gooseneck with a 350 and never miss a beat. i sold the truck with 264k miles. My step dad bought a tacoma in 2000. I absolutely hated it, he just bough the new nissan titan and he thinks it's the world, unti I let him drive my truck. I think later on their going to have trouble with their engines because their smaller but getting worse gas mileage and pulling harder to make the hp/tq as the others. It's all preference. I would tell him to get a diesel. their made by isuzu.

I had a 1993 chevy with a V-6 in it, had over 215K until the engine blew, but that was because I was running 80mph in 2nd gear! I gave that truck all kinds of hell! It was my uncle's until I bought it from him and he gave it hell too! Had the same tranny the whole time and only put one alternator and one water pump on it! So I'm sure a newer chevy will be a hell of a lot better!

Toyota is a hell of a ******* car company; bar none the best today in terms of reliability.

I dont think you can go wrong with either one; both can be run for 200k miles. The interior and small components of the Yota will probobly last longer.

personally I think toyota is a great car company. I like the tacoma, the tundra is a totally different truck and I am not crazy about them. Also over priced by my standards.

My vote would be for the tundra. I love my Chevy but I wanted a Tundra. It rode like a car, and the fit and finish was amazing. Plus their resale is right up there too (part of the reason I don't have one)

Both might run 200k+ but there is no doubt the Toyota will be built better IMO. Most likely no steering pops, interior noises, no loud road noise, guage lights wont mysteriously stop working, transmission will be built better, there probably won't be bolts missing here and there etc. My truck has 13k miles and I've had these problems.

I believe theyre both built in the US so you'd think they'd be equal but this just isn't the case. I'm not ******* on GM but compared to Toyota - quality just doesnt compare. Now for performance, aftermarket, and generally being involved in Sport Trucks, the GM is on a whole different level - which is why I have one.

I like toyota's too, although my first truck was a 1971 chevy and my current is an 03chevy.

My 00 Tacoma was dead reliable and fit and finish was good.

But part of the reason for that is the way the crew cab seats fold down and the amount of aftermarket available for it.

One thing I like better about the chevy is the hardware used to assemble the truck.
