Default Lifter play

I have a 5.3 and i recently replace all the lifters becuase it was having a ticking that sounded like the lifters, rocker arms seem ok and i had a mechine shop check and resurface the heads and i let the lifters soak in oil before installing them now it sounds even worse it sounds like every single lifter is ticking instead of the 1 or 2 that i heard before and i have a little bit of play pusing down on the push rod with the rocker arm off. Can it be bad new lifters i bought melling which is a pretty good brand what can this be i also have good oil presure and it has a mild cam

It's a hydraulic lifter with a spring, it's going to have some movement.

This video shows the parts.

Interesting I'm going to probably have to pull the hole engine and recheck everything it might be a bearing then i thought these lifters shouldnt have play since the old ones didnt

Why don’t you check lifter preload before pulling the motor.

Well i didnt change the push rods and i never had this problem before so i dont see why the preload will be the problem this motor has seen boost before so i believe it might be something else

Looks like you guys might be right when the lifter is on the low side of the cam it looks like the rocker arm isnt snug with the push rod theres some movement

Funny enough as it is a lot of the stock motors out there are running .110-.120 which is way to much. .080 on stock lifters or stock replacements is preferred. My stock LQ4 had .115
