Default KR Mod! I finally found it!

I've posted this question before with poor results. Never got a good answer on how to do it or anything. Anyway, i found a link that tells exactly how to do it and why. I'm looking forward to doing it next month.

Here is a helpful link to find out what resistors you need.

when i had my 99 i just put a 10k ohm resistor inline with the knock sensor, didn't bother with the one in parallel, it work great and didn't set any codes.

there are 2 sensors and each have their own wire coming up so you have to do that twice.

if you do this mod and desensatize real knock you will break parts.

But if you suspect false knock like i do, then trying it at 20% and seeing if i get any gain, or hear any real knock is worth a try. If i hear real knock, or dont gain anything from it i'll just take the resistors out. I'm getting atap within the next few months so i will know more about whats going on. Its worth a shot in the dark. I won't try to spray it with the KR mod till i get ATAP and am 100% its false.

There was a time with my hypertech tune I was getting up to 8 degress of knock. I thought I would have to do the KR mod to get the horsepower back I was loosing. But once I got some good tables in there (02 tune) everything is fine and no need for modding.

So my question is how can you tell if you need to do this?

I never even knew I had knock untill I got atap so none was audible.

Real knock isnt always bad enough to hear. The bad, mess your **** up knock can usually be heard fairly easy. All i know is im falling off some in the upper rpms and im guessing its due to KR. If i'm getting even 5* KR i'm loosing as much as 25hp. That is if its false. With 100 octane its the same as with 93. With 87oct. and 10.3:1 compression you can EASILY hear knock.

i wouldn't mess with it till you have atap at least.

the proper way to check for false knock is to watch atap and see if you are geting any KR, if you are geting more than 2 deg or so then it is hurting your performance. put in some better gas(100 octane) and see if it goes away or lessens on atap. if you see the same knock as before then there is a good chance it is false. if it goes away then it is real.

the knock sensors are your friend. especialy with 10.3-1 compresion.

Yea thats what I did. I was getting 8deg at WOT so I put in 87, 89, 91, and 100 and logged to see any changes. Nothing changed.

All my problems worked out with the right tune
