Question intercooler question...

I was wondering, if you have FI and an intercooler, do you have to keep the water in the IC cool all the time? Or if you plan on driving your truck hard (such as taking it to the track, or cruising), put really cold water and ice in the IC? Can you leave the water thats in it and that be enough or do I have to run to circle K and throw ice in it everyday???

Most leave it alone. My tank holds like 2 cups, lol. I know of one guy who had a larger coolant tank in his bed and he filled it with ice water but not sure if that is really worth the effort.
If the coolant system is not efficient enough for you it might be better to get a larger heat exchanger or methanol injection.

i see. thank you for the reply...

and you say if the coolant system isnt good enough, how can you tell that you would need one? I live in phx where it's already hot enough that your engine doesnt need to warm up. Do they give you more power or is it just another way to cool the system. who makes a good meth kit? and is methanol injection better or similar to water injection, nitrous?

I'm not the expert here but you can monitor your IAT's (intake air temp) to see how efficient your IC is functioning. AlkyControll is a good kit and you can use straight meth, water or a mix if you desire.
Nitrous is another story

So if you use meth or water/meth in one of these kits, is it usually on under certain conditions such as WOT; or say I have a magnacharger where the boost is on mostly from a stop, could I have it the meth on at a certain boost number and stay on til it goes below?

What does methanol cost?

The controller is adjustable. Most of us have the meth come on at 3lbs. I can stay out of boost indefinately if i choose so no worrys. Meth runs about 4.50gl but I only use ~1gl a month.

oh ok so thats not bad at all. Small price to pay for extra hp potential. So the amount of spray that comes on in a 3lb or more boost situation for a month is about a gal for you

Well, I dont go into boost all too often on the street, don't have to. I can get the rears loose before going into boost just fine and burn them at over 40mph (at full throttle) so I try to behave in public.
