from what i've heard the K&N is better. my friend has the Airraid and plans on changing it. all the Airraid comes with is a cone K&N filter and a heat shield. everything else is stock.
but if yur looking for a new intake several people swear by the UPD. http://www.ultimatepd.com/

on the K&N the MAF goes on the shield...
there is a hole for it, then there's a round plate that screws into it from the back, then of course the filter hooks onto that plate.
its like this:
cone<----plate<----MAF<----intake tube<----throttle body

The UPD will not fit because its a 98 (older body style). My dad has the K & N on his 99 Suburban and it was easy to install and I could tell the performance difference.
btw crazyidiot4.8 you are an idiot j/k <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

The Airraid has a better filter. I ran an Airraid and now have a K&N. For daily driving, I run the Airraid FILTER and for the track, the K&N. The Airraid has 2 more layers in it than the K&N. The heat shield IMO makes no differance. The stock air tube lets just as much air flow as any aftermarket tube, just doesn't direct it as well. These guys with the UPD seem to like them a lot. For me, I like my combo.

I like my garage fab 4" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Cost: $80 including filter (the BLitz stainless filter cost $65 of the $80)
4" ABS sewage pipe
4" close radius rubber elbow
2-4" clamps
no shield in the engine compartment
My truck seems to run just as hard as the rest.

Also look into Volant and see if they make something for a '98.
I had a K&N on my '97 and it was ok, I felt the qaulity could've been better and is nowhere near the quality of my Volant on my new truck.
