I would prefer a SoCal vendor/company but not tied to here.

I would like a min 200amp alt. with high idle output characteristics.

Alterstart and Motorcity Reman on ebay are good places to get them from. A 200A unit should do 85-105A at idle (depends on your idle speed). I'd peep for the smallest alt pulley also to support low speed charge. 1.75" is the smallest I've ever seen.

Some use the larger 130A unit case and some use the 105A unit case.

I'd consider an Optima Yellow Top also... like I have.

SuperSporttruck, I checked out the website and I have a question, is Chuy adding an alternator to the system? From the pic on the sight, thats what it looks like to me.

 

I know they have a system out now for the escalades that adds an alternator. It'd be cool to do.

i have one of those 200amp units in my k5blazer....its baaaaad asssss, i could run a city ( in fact it runs over 70 amps in lights alone, my blower motor, ignition big stereo in such at idle with no problem.....yes im a 4wheeler)

The only company that builds a good alternator that actually puts out rated power is WranglerNW in my opinion. Their ratings are hot, not cold, and they put out a considerable amount at idle. I just ordered one for a 2k2 avelanche that I put a very large system in. The unit is a 225 amp unit with external regulator, I believe retail on the unit is about $800.00. This company builds alternators for ambulances and such, no other company I have ever tried has actually been able to come near to a wrangler alternator. If you truely need a 200 amp alternator, call them. I think its www.wranglernw.com

retsell, I just put in a system with a JL 1000/1 and a JL 300/4. Not sure how accurate the stock gauge is but it stays steady at 14volts or there abouts. I have the small 105amp alt. However, I will be adding other electronic acc. very soon and quite possibly some electric fans.

I'm tryin to get ahead of the game here......I figure 200amps should cover all I need.
$800 bucks seems a little steep though.
what about green machine? or someone comparable to WranglerNW but not so expensive........
