Buy it-Break it-Build it!
Yah i know the transmission will over power pretty much any stock motor, but the tranny might not stay in this truck, i would like to put it in a rcsb or maybe trade back FLT or sell it to get an FLT t56. We will see, gotta get the motor first, i'll hear from my buddy tomorrow, he said $500 for an SS 6.0, but then again that's just talk. I'm crossing my fingers cause if that's true i'll write a check tomorrow.

if you get the LQ4 just mill the heads to get you the LQ9 compression...

by the way there is nothing wrong with modding an extended cab!!

The LQ9 has stronger rods as well as flat top pistons AFAIK.

Denalis and C3s also had LQ9s, not LQ4s. AFAIK, SSS, Denalis, C3, Esky, and VHOs where the LQ9 equipped trucks. HDs and CCs where the LQ4s.

The only difference is rods and pistons and you'll be replacing both if you do a 408. Because of that, paying the extra coin for a LQ9 seems a bit silly. The LQ4 is 9.4:1 and the LQ9 is 10.1:1. If your buddy can get a 6.0 for $500, DO IT and worry about the pistons at rebuild time

C3's and Denali's unfortunately came with LQ4's. Sierra Denali's starting in '05 got the LQ9 (when they became crew cabs). While it is true that the only difference is the rods and pistons, also starting in '05 all the 6.0L's including the LS2 got the same floating pin rods.
