[QUOTE=jimbo95z28]I believe that the instructions to use it are right on the can. It give you a good idea of how long. I believe, it is pretty much until it just stops smoking. They also say on the can to change the oil afterwards, but I don't see the reason why if you are pouring it into your intake, and not the crankcase

It causes the oil to break down. This is how it cleans the intake. Probably a good idea and do as the instructions say and change your oil.

Hey guys...I don't want to backtrack and throw any fire on the catch can debate, but I used to have the home made version for about a month. Yea, it caught oil fine, but after I got about a teaspoon's worth, I noticed the level wasn't getting any higher, so I pulled the hose off the intake manifold side, and sure enough, it was sucking oil right through.
I've been running the AMW for about a month now and am very happy with it. Yea, it's expensive, but it looks nice and works great...so far, no oil going where it shouldn't. The home made version is fine, just seems to require a little more maintenance in the form of frequent drainings. Just my personal experience though. If something works good for ya, run with it.

Gm Has A Revised Pvc Valve That Is Suppose To Help But I Dont Think It Is. The Part # Is 12572717 Its A Fixed Style. How Does The Catch Can Work(sorry Im New To This). Where Does It Go Sorry To Be Asking Dumb Questions But I Would Really Like To Solve The Gunk In My Intake Problem

Basically the oil goes from your pcv hose into the catch can, where the oil drips down and is trapped while the air from the pcv is still allowed to flow through to the intake freely. They pretty much catch all of the oil going through. Then you periodically dump it out.

SEA FOAM REPLY -

You do not pour it down your TB or pout it anywhere other than into the crankcase AND fuel OR A CUP in which you would put the BRAKE BOOSTER HOSE and let the engine SUCK UP the SeaFoam FROM that cup.

You need to have someone working the throttle to prevent the engine from dying out until the cup you poured the seafoam into is just about empty. then let the seafoam kill the engine, let it sit for 30 minutes, start it back up and go romping around town. Keep in car for a few hundred miles then change out oil.

Great info on the catch can, guys. I am shadetree meself and will be going with the DIY version. Cool.

This weekend I actually found what looked like a small amount of oil splatter on the inside of my intake tube - just upstream from the TB blade.

Thanks, Chingon, Mac and 02Denali for sharing the do it yourself can.

I also bought a can of seafoam so I think I'll do that first then toss this baby on and see how it does.

Thanks again!

I used two of the home made catch cans in series and oil still got caught in the second one. Does any one know if the AMW catch can catches ALL of the oil.
