While we're on a roll here, though...

I pulled my intake tube today and peeked inside the intake manifold. All I had was a very light film of a substance that closely resembles heavy-heavy grease or light smudgeable tar. It was VERY hard to get off my fingers and smelled like gasoline. I had a hard time washing it off my hands even with a good automotive hand cleaner. It was not WET anywhere in the visible part of the intake.

I assume this is just the oily mist condensing on the inside of the intake. I'm not sure if it's heavy (or 'liquidy') enough for the wire mesh in the catch-can to do anything to help. It seems like I'd need an actual air-filter style element to help with anything. I suppose a catch-can can't hurt though.

 

That sounds like carbon marc...is it in the throttle body and on the back of the throttle blade? The throttle body will get carbon buildup over time no matter what you do. When it gets really bad it was actually cause the gas pedal to stick. We used to clean the throttle body at 15k intervals at the dealership, I do my own once a year. Oil sucking through the PCV will make it gum up even faster, as well as the intake, combustion chambers etc.
Like you said, the catch can't hurt though...I'm happy with mine, just drained about a tablespoon of oil out of it last weekend, and so far the hose on the intake side is still dry (knock on wood)

 

Cool, thanks. Yeah, this was all near the TB. It was all around the blade, and a few inches behind it. I had just enough of a build up to notice a little bit of a ridge forming in the TB.

Good job man, looks factory! I'll take some pics of mine some day...mounted it on the driver's side...it's a little more protrusive than yours but looks OK.
