Default horsepower math?

I know that adding or removing 100 pounds is worth 1/10 sec in the 1/4 mi....roughly...

..but whats that work out to in horsepower.

If a 100 pounds was removed from a truck...that would represent increasing engine HP by ______?

I always heard 10 hp for 100 lbs, but none of that stuff is really accurate. I mean 100 lbs on a 6000 lb vehicle(1.6%) isnt as big a deal as far as power to weight as it is on a 3000 lb vehicle(3.3%).
But like you said, it is just a rough estimate.

I kinda see what your asking but it doesn't make sense, you could drop 500 lb's but your motor would still make the same amount of power

I always understood it as 100lbs BEHIND the flywheel.

We'll see if any of this actually matters. Weighing the truck monday, and plan to have the spare tire off, jack, passenger seat and tailgate for racing friday.

We'll see how much weight is lost and how much e/t i lose.

All i need now is a 02 PCM and a Nelson tune and i'll be out of this stupid 16.0 hole im stuck in with the sub-par 99 tuning.

True, but look at the facts. THe Subaru STI is rated at 300 hp, a truck 6.0 is rated about the same. The STI will SMOKE a stock 6.0 all day long. Besides the motor differences, the main difference here is WEIGHT!

When my buddy and I used to race our ATV's it was always said to be about 10lbs per 1hp. You dont gain horse power you just loss that much with weight. I have about 100lbs on my friend, he was ALWAYS faster up the hill on two bikes built exactly the same.

I've no doubt that less weight should mean improved acceleration.

My interest is because theres a guy in the building with a bright red, short box, 4x4, extend cab hemi.
K&N, Gibson exhaust..

..really sharp looking.

Mine is 03 shortbox, regular cab, 5.3, 3.73, G80, 91 hot tune from nelson, 80% TQ management removed. cold air intake.
Plain Jane, except for air. It should be very light...maybe 4500? 4600? lbs.

According to the Dodge home page, his Hemi would be about 5300 lbs.

When parking beside him, he can't help but crap on my GM....nothing serious..just in good fun...
I told him..just in good fun...the 600? 700? pound difference in weight..and his TQ management might be his un-doing..

He has no idea about TQM..or even the concept..
The weight stuff goes right over his head..."but I got a better muffler" he says...

Its just Hemi..Hemi...Hemi

So guys...would I win?..or should I shut my mouth.

Is his greater weight equal to me having 50? 60? horsepower more?

Up-graded Nelson tune on the way...100% TQM removed and Transgo shift kit going in...

..maybe I better wait...

10hp-100lbs........100lbs-.10sec......10hp-.10sec...

Pretty much a science.....Pretty close...

I have been in my truck with a buddy that weighed in @ 240lbs and when he got out it ran almost exactly .24-.25 sec faster...
