Default homemade LS6 valley cover??

hey guys,

Im gathering up ideas for my build and doing some pre planning before I start buying parts and stuff. I have the stock valley plate for my 05' L33 and I am interested in making a "LS6 valley cover" to run my pcv system. Could I drill my valley cover and weld a aluminum fitting of some sort in the valley cover and use a braided line system to a oil catch can before returning to the intake?? Maybe a 1/4" or 3/8" fitting and then running my line to a catch can and then into the original EGR hole built into the intake? What is your opinions on this and any input from guys who have attempted a setup like this.

Thanks

I drilled and tapped a 1/4" NPT hole in my valley cover, screwed in a 1/4 NPT to 3/8" hose barb 90* fitting, and ran 3/8" hose to a catch can. My catch can is vented, though.

Not sure how well it would work if it was hooked up to a vacuum source.

ok so your catch can was just vented?? So when your crankcase had pressure it pumped it out to your catch can and then just vented out to the atmosphere?

I have read having the crankcase under vacuum will yield best results for engine efficiency(maybe I am mistaken???). Maybe somebody can chime in on this. I just figured if I was to route it back into the intake then it would be best to run through a catch can first.

I have a 1/2 barbed fitting in mine that I was going to run a vacuum pump but a lot of oil got splashed around right there. So I just capped it

Yeah i figured alot if oilcould get splashed around there. Maybe if i was to put the tap above the middle if the block, away from the 2 holes in each end of the block?? Maybe right in the middle between the 2 knock sensors.

I get a lot of condensation in my catch can, but no oil. Then again, I only put 700 miles on the truck in the last two years. haha

Haha yeah thats not many miles at all. This seems like a great idea to help with crankcase pressure but i want more input as to what might help with it sucking oil. This will be a DD engine though and wont see alot of high rpm's

I taped mine for 3/8" npt right in the middle and teed it into the valve covers to a vented can, works fine.

I appreciate the offer Noah Burns but even if you cut me a heck of a deal i would still be spending alot more than if i drilled and welded in a connector. Thanks though man.

Atomic: so you still tapped into the valve covers? I was going to plug the valve covers and just run from the valley cover. Since this will be a NA DD. i could always keep the head cover plug reversable though in case i need extra venting in a boosted setup. So if i was to just run it from the valley cover to a catch can and then vent it to the atmkshere would this affect the tune in anyway? Could the eingine pull unmetered air through that? Or could i just stick with my original plan and after the catch can plug it into the egr hole on the stock intake? That would pull a vacuum on the crankcase
