Default ? for guys with SS's or C3's

I took out my front driveshaft to go do some burnouts(nothing better to do on a saturday) and all the truck would do was spin the hell out of the front of the transfer case. The truck would pull itself along but the minute I leaned into it....nothing but transfer case whine. Is there anyway around this? I have seen some guys with 03 SS's taking out the front driveshaft to dyno but not any 04's. Kind of bummed me out. We did a really cool burnout in my buddie's 04 duramax dually though. Edge on level 4 @ 25#'s of boost makes lots of tire smoke.

sounds like the diff in the transfercase is fried. I dont think id ever try doing a burnout in my truck like that. Thats a lot more stress than the diff will see on a dyno. I wouldnt even take out my front shaft to dyno but thats just me. I think you need a new transfercase

I dont know what the problem is, but i have an SS. I think that if you want to spin the tires you should throw a big *** turbo on the bitch and spin all 4.

I just took it out to see if it would work...I didn't really put much strain on it with the front shaft out. I only went a couple feet with it out. Once it was readily apparant that it wasn't going to work we pulled it back in the drive and reinstalled it. I drove it in the rain on Sunday and it would spin all four like mad from a dead start so I know the transfer case is fine. I was just curious why it would take all the power away from the rear tires like that. The truck only has 12,XXX miles on it and I have had no problems out of it.

I think the AWD transfer case transfers power once slippage is detected. in other words with the rear axle trying to spin I think it transfers power to the front. I think I read somewhere that the AWD system is not as positive as 4WD meaning that all 4 wheels do not recieve equal amounts of power under normal driving conditions. I believe the transfer case is different on the AWD and 4WD models.

GM states right in their service manuals not to run the vehicle at all without the front ds. Your also not supposed to drive the truck with all 4 wheels off the ground (ie on the hoist). My boss went through all this when the local dealer pulled his front shaft to find a noise. in doing so, they created a very big problem

Seems like a lot of potential damage for a little wheel spin. A waste of good parts. JMO though.

Thanks for the link! Good thing I didn't continue trying to flog it. Kind of sucks though. I would have liked to dyno it and see what it put down.
