ok, this is a pain but it looks like i am geting somewhere, not far but somewhere at least.

it seems that i have 2 problems at least, first is a conection problem with the usb, every time i think i am geting somewhere or eliminating posiabilites something changes and i think that is the usb thing. i am going to order a pcmcia to serial set up for that problem.

now to start all over with the problem. i can connect to an 01 pcm (using an actual serial port on pc), i can partialy connect to my 03 but it goes thru a series of conecting, geting vin, reciving security code, waiting 10sec for pcm to be ready, then starts all over with atempting to reastablish conection. it connects fast and even is able to pull the vin, just cant go any further.

I had a problem like this with LS1Edit for my 2000. I got it to work a few times, but most of the time it would just go through this loop you've described. Every time it cycled through the loop, it would prime the injectors, so after a few cycles my engine would be flooded and wouldn't start for a while. I sent emails back and forth with Carputing and eventually ended up sending the cable back for them to test. It ended up being some problem with their cable that they'd never seen before. They sent me a new cable and I haven't had any problems since.

i am geting somewhere i think, i took the pcm a dealer buddy and he tried to reflash it back to stock with GM hardware, he had the exact same problem as me, it could read the vin and get codes and all of that but when it went to write it had some kind of security issue.

that tells me i need to get a fresh pcm and have it flashed with the stock 03 set up then try edit with that one. from what i understand edit locks to your vin AND pcm number so i need to get that figured out since it probably wont let me program this new PCM, it should let me read it fine though. any one know how that part works with edit? the pcm number thing?

i am also going to get a pcmcia card, no more usb to serial for edit, also full electrical isolation from the truck.

What about the 4L80E programming Jim? What are you going to do about that if you get a brand new PCM?

i think i can flash it in there, i have a read right after i got it back from speartech, should be able to flash that in there. i also have the segment id numbers that speartech used and my buddy told me he can use the same numbers as speartech but he would need to call gm to get "permission".

if nothing else i will just send it back to speartech, John is real helpfull, thanks for the pigtails John.
