i take it back, i need 1.3 but it needs to be for 03trucks, i loaded in 1.3 but for 01/02trucks and it wont open the files either, i thought it was the cable that kept you from opening stuff but i guess it is the software.

Jim - Try uninstalling ALL the versions from your computer and starting fresh with the 1.3 or 1.21 whatever is for your year truck.

The cable is what marry's to the PCM. Don't clear your previous versions of Edit. Install the new version over the top of your old Edit. i.e. the same directory ect..

Once loaded you may be back to having driver issues..

Good luck

this idea sounds better. i would even take it a step further and search your hard drive for any remaining files it may have left behind and delete them.

Yup ... I'm with XL and TT. Remove it all ... and try a new, fresh installation.

ok, that helped, i uninstaled and then reinstaled, i am back where i was before, it will conect to the 01 computer and try to conect to the 03 but just cycles.

i got a newer version to try now but i think i will go back and do the uninstall, empty the recycle bin, get rid of all the files thing, then reload and then upgrade. i feel like being able to hookup to the old pcm is a good sign and will help to narrow down the list of potential causes.

what is involved in the reflash from the dealer? can i just take them my pcm?

If you need I can send you the software i use for my truck. Mine works fairly well. But for some reason if i dont reprogram it twice i set a DTC code ever time, so i reprogram is twice every time and I never have a problem.

Also if you do need to get your PCM reflashed, just take your speartech harness and the PCM to the dealer and tell them what you need done. All you need is your VIN number. Just tell them that you have a harness that will let you do the reprogram without the car being there and they will do it. They charged me an hour of labor to do it to mine. If your truck runs, then I doubt you will need this done though, I had to do this because my truck wouldnt do anything after my PC crashed in the middle of a download.

Actually, you need to install it in a new directory. Choose a different program files folder name as well during the setup. That will let you install and run each version. I think I have at least 6 copies of edit loaded. Each is a different version and some are for different model vehicles (like the 1.3 ver Jim installed for only the 01-02s). Much easier this way.
