Default GM ASA Cam

Wanting to run a GM ASA Cam in my 6.0LQ9. Specs are 226/236 .525 .525 110 LSA. I'm worried about valve clearance issues. Anybody running this cam or one with similar specs? Did you have to machine deeper reliefs into the pistons?

you should be fine since most aftermarket cam with that duration have more lift, shoult have a nice lope to it. So you plannin on a stall and tune to go with it?

Actually, the LQ9 I have is out of an 03 Escalade and is going into a 79 TransAm. I plan to run a t56 six speed and will probably have it tunned once the car gets running. What is involved in a tune and how much do they usually run?

Check this site for a tune you can search on here for nelson tune and find pages of info on them. Mostly they change fuel, timing, and shift points. Not sure how much lift the factory springs will handle but you can get the yellow ls1 springs I think that sdpc has them. They will allow for .550 lift I think. Maybe some one will chime in with a little more knowledge on these motors.

I think it is recommended that you use the LS6 springs with the GM ASA cam.

Similar to mine with a narrow LSA, I might look at something with a wider LSA, so your power band is wider...

whould this cam be too big for the lq4. since c/r are different from the lq9 and lq4.

I've never heard of that. The only thing I know is that the package comes with the Ls6 springs. The relatively low lift that this cam gives is also easier on the valve train so the valve springs do not have to be replaced often; such is the case with other higher lift cams.

Anyway, I'm off to the emissions testing site with my 01 Dodge Ram, its usually more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

If he were to run the cam in a truck, he'd need the wider lobe separation, but since it's going into a car the narrow separation will allow more peak HP and be better for his application.

Just understand that the ASA cam is still really mild. Personally, I'd go carbed and run something around 235-238 duration and 600+ lift for an old TA. Gotta have the rumpity sound for old school cars IMHO!
