fianlly went to the track!

Well I finally went to the track and actually did pretty well! I have an 03 ECSB 5.3 with the factory locker, factory tires, and a corsa exhaust and upd intake. I ran my truck with my snug top lid on, spare tire and no weight reduction. The track temps were about 75-77 degrees and the elevation was at least 2700 ft above sea level.
I expected to pull some really crappy times especially considering that I havent been to the dragstrip in about 9 years , I have NEVER dragged an automatic and my trucks heavy weight.
Anyway I ran three times and my best corrected times were: a 15.60 at 87.40mph and a 15.61 at 87+ mph.
My reaction times were horrible, .8?? and .937!
Do you guys think my times would have been much better with lower reaction times?
My 60 ft times were 2.381 for my best run and another 2.3??. I thought these were decent 60ft times. What do you all think?
When launching I made sure traction control was off. When launching I would press lightly on the gas and brake. When the amber before the green lit up I would slam on the accelerator.
How is this launching technique? Any suggestions?
I only have a corsa exhaust and a upd filter so I didnt expect especially low times but I was hoping to run a 15.2 or 15.3. Do you all think I could run such a time with better reaction times and/or 60 ft times?
I am getting a diablo predator and 160 degree thermostat tomorrow and plan to run this friday to see if the diablo drops a few tenths off my quarter. How many tenths, if any, do you think the diablo will drop off my quarter? I would assume that playing with the shifts, redline and torque management should have some effect on quarter times.
There was a basically stock dropped rcsb 2000 dakota running on drag radials with the 318 V8 running 15.9's, so I was happy a big full size like mine was pretty much smoking such a small truck
Anyway there is my track report. Hope you guys can help with some suggestions.

The only way I think you could run the 15.2's or so would be if you manually shifted it and stalled it up high enough off the line to get a good launch.
When my truck was bone stock I would let it shift itself and would run 15.9-16.0. If I manually shifted it as close to the rev limiter as I could get I could pull off 15.5s (or a lil worse if I tagged the limiter).
I then modified to stock intake tract, descreened the MAF, added an HPP3 and a muffler (not catback) and can run 15.25-15.35 all night long.
These times are on my VERY ACCURATE G-Tech so track times might vary by a couple tenths but the gains would be conistant no matter what.
The key to the low times is being able to stay in 2nd gear till the end of the 1/4mile. At least it has been for me.
Well, at least till I put these crappy 285/75/16 tires on

My reaction times are usually in the .54X range, so you have some room to improve. If you knocked .3 off your reaction time, you will have a mid to low 15 sec run.
I always hit the first stage light first. Then creep up the the next one with my left foot on the brake and right on the gas. As soon as I trigger that light, I begin to torque up the ride. I try to leave when the 3rd amber is just about to turn off.
60' times are going to be that low as your converter is crappy. A higher stall (even 2400) will make a nice reduction in times.
I'd expect about .1-.3 drop with a programmer.

Thanks for the info.
So you think I should try shifting it manually? I would think that it would put some serious stress on the tranny. Personally I wouldnt think it would make that much of a difference especially once I get my diablo predator tuner.
With the tuner I plan to raise the rev limit and adjust the shift points to keep it in gear longer so then I should be able to get some lower times.
I know one guy claiming a 15 flat on a ecsb like mine with only an exhaust and intake! Another guy said with a stock truck like mine he ran a 15.5. That just sounds like to me. What do you guys think!?

I didn't run mine in Drive since it was pretty obvious that a 5200 shiftpoint sucked. Manually shift it at 5900! Sound like a pretty good time for an EC.

If you get the Predator and adj. for rev limit and **** points then there is no need to manually shift anymore. Manually shifting wont hurt anything, it's the manual downshifts while under full throttle or downshifting to slow down that can cause premature wear.
As for 15.5s on a stock truck I can totally believe that with manual shifting and good traction, especially on a non 4x4 with 3.73 gears. Y2K Silverado ran a lil better than that with some free mods if I remember correctly.
With a truck that came out with high HP from the factory (we call em factory freaks in the F-body world) and a low Density Altitude on the nigh they ran I could see it possible with good shifting. Quit possibly he had a few small mods that most people dont mention because they are so minor but who knows. My buddy ran a best ever of 12.68@112 in a BONE STOCK WS6 with just Nittos and 12.8s on street tires. Nobody that has not seen the car run believes it though. <Shrugs>

I see your point about the manual shifting and I do see how its possible to run 15.5 stock.
I just think most people quoting these times fail to give details like; The run was made at night or during cold weather and low elevation. OR maybe the run was on drag radials, after some weight reduction or under some other circumstance.
Anyway I will be sure to post some new times after this fridays predator test/tune!

i dont know about 15.5 stock in an 03 but my friend has an 02 ext cab silverado only thing is he hacked his airbox went no air filer and no right head light and did 15.3 all stock compared to my intake and hppp3 scsb on 20s wich ran a 15.1 the same night i was impressed by his truck and he was also manually shifting, oh yeah his best run was with the mirrors flipped in haha
