fianlly went to the track!

it's not an extended cab but a friend of mine ran a 14.92@90mph in his 03 rcsb 5.3L. all he has is a 2 chamber flowmaster, and thats all. i was pissed because i did almost everything to my truck and i ran the same exact time but almost 3 mph faster. i didn't have traction though. he didn't manual shift it or do any weight reductions either. however, we did this in houston and it was actualy a cold night. with the way those 03's are runnning i don't think you'll have any problem getting low 15's. i would almost say that with headers you'll be in the 14's, at least i think you would be in houston on a cold night. just my .02 cents.

Marine Blue, those times are REALLY good for that elevation! I can't remember the site, but someone might can tell ya how to factor for altitude if those times aren't already corrected.

Yea those times WERE already corrected. Either way I was still happy with those times considering the circumstances, fully loaded truck, half+ tank of gas, etc.

If those times were corrected, what did you actually run? The best I got was manually shifting at about 5800rpms, removing the tailgate, about 1/4 tank of gas, removing my lower airbox and taping the filter to the box top. It was a 16.2 at 83 mph, at 2000ft elevations at Las Vegas Speedway. Does my new truck just suck? I got 1200 miles in it before I ever floored it. I had 1400 when I ran it at the strip.

If your track is exactly 2000' above sea lvl then your corrected times should be right around 15.82@85mph.
That is using this forumla
16.2 x .9770 = 15.82
83mph x 1.0241 =85mph
Those are NHRA correction factors for 2000' elevation.
If your truck is bone stock then those times are not bad at all. Weather could play a big factor also because a bad DA could make your elevatin effectively higher.

MarineBlue, my truck has similar mods and those times seem really good for what you have. the programmer will help out with the shift points. if you look at my mods in my sig, my truck runs around 15.6's but that is a G-tech competition averaged times from multiple runs. 4x4 gives me the slower times. not sure what my elevation is. actually i just checked. it is about 600' asl. i think the temp was low 40's. i need to do more runs to get more accurate #'s. i might try programming mine back to stock to see the difference.

Hey hodgee,
My track, palmdale was at 2700 ft so I ran a 16.089 at 84.86 mph. According to the track's homepage where I raced (LACR, Palmdale) you find MY corrected time, by multiplying the ET by .97 and the mph by 1.03. SO my quarter time would be 15.606 at 87.406.
hodgee I think your truck is definitely capable of mid 15's (15.4-15.6), especially since its a regular cab and lighter than my extended cab with the big ole snug top, 1/2 tank gas, etc.
So your truck only has 1400 miles on it? Mine has about 4800. Maybe your truck isnt fully broken in yet? I also did NOT manually shift my truck. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Do you have a factory locker? How were your 60 ft times?

60's were 2.61 to 2.63 I got the 3.73 and the G80. Traction was pretty crappy, so that probably played a lot. When I flored it, I would get about 15 feet of both tires spinning. I need some damn rims and tires! When I let it shift on its own I got 16.4s. So definate .2 sec improvement on the shifts. I kept messing up the shifts, and it bouncef off of the rev limiter twice. That is why I want the HPP3 or the Diablo programmer to set that stuff up a bit. I know if it is set by the computer it will work a lot better and be more consistant.

Your 60 fts ie, lack of traction definitely didnt help your ets. My 60fts were 2.381 and 2.4??.
Did you try dropping your tire pressure at all?
I ran around 28-30psi, dont know if it made much of a difference though.
Maybe the track conditions were just crappy? Either way your bound for betta times fo sure!

Played with pressure, made no difference. I did about 7 runs. I was told by everyone out there that my truck was running really great actually. Everyone said that they don't know why, but the Strip in Vegas just really sucks for good times, unless you run slicks, and then some of the guys in the pits said that don't help much either. Well, I just wanted base numbers before doing my mods. By next months I should have the headers, exhaust and intake, hopefully I will have enough money left for the programer too. Then I will post my new times. I don't think that I will try stripping the vehicle any more, it does not show what I then would actually run on the street. Just leave the vehicle stock and run 1/2 or less gas. That mean right now I am running about 16.3 to 16.4 on the street. Most of the cars I saw were running about .7 seconds slower than what I usually read in MotorTrend and other magazine. Driver, Vehicle, or Track?!?
