Im gathering parts to rebuild my '91 C1500 with a nitrous 5.3 and sitting here looking at mufflers..
Man i dont remember this many muffler options back years ago when i started messing with these trucks.

Thinking of something kinda medium quiet/loud?
Ive got the biggest dynomax on my 2500HD and i like it cause its quiet being its a 24" long case.

So should i just get couple big dynomax mufflers with a X pipe or a couple Borla XR-1s?
Big Gibson Dual I/O? Havent heard one those in several years.
Magnaflow? The ones i had back in the day had bad drone.

Or a big single dual I/O with x pipe built in?

No muffler and open headers?
X pipe before the mufflers and another X pipe after the Mufflers?

I don't have a sound clip or anything but years ago we did a LS with two vibrant ultra quiet resonators and it sounded great. It took the rasp away and still left it with a real nice sound. I think if you did a X-Pipe with those, it would sound good.

Otherwise I think the longer dynomax muffler would sound good too.

Thats kinda what im thinking.
The last 5.3 swap i did in a S10 i used a Vibrant 17950 and a 17233 Dynomax with a 20" case. It was quieter at idle than my wifes tahoe with stock exhaust.

So your thinking just a couple resonators and a x pipe?

My buddy with the dyno has tried several different exhaust on his track car and found out a X pipe before and after mufflers helped pickup some power in the upper Rpms.

I might redo my exhaust in a couple years

but for today it's:

1 7/8 TSP LTs
3" off road y
3.5 to a Magnaflow 12909
3.5 Dynomax bullet right before the tip
"Flowmaster" dual wall tip

I have no clue what it sounds like from outside the truck, under load- but I LOVE the way it sounds at idle or with the windows down against a wall

I’m a fan of the Borla pro xs.

I have a FlowMaster 40 series on mine. Single in dual out, cannot remember case size but I like it. It is not loud for me but I am deaf.

Magnaflow gets the nod from me. They sound amazing and with a vibrant resonator there is zero drone.

I've never tried a vibrant and magnaflow. So I might have to see how that sounds.

I have the largest DI/DO Magnaflow in 3" on my truck, which is basically dual ~3" pipes all the way to the muffler, then down to 2.5" dual exits out the back and it's loud/drones bad in 4th locked up at 16-1800 RPM.

A smaller tubing may help but I think It just needs more muffler and potentially some resonators like most people say.
